OFFICIAL UT AUSTIN APPEAL THREAD/ WAIT-LISTED APPLICANT

@135pipe My daughter got waitlist/PACE/CAP. She applied to McComb’s/UGS. Later, she tried to change her requested major to Liberal Arts, but it was too late to make the change. She was 8.6% rank at the end of her junior year. She is now 6.9% (mid-year senior transcript) and will be even higher at graduation. We submitted her new transcript a couple of weeks before her admission decision was released. Clearly the new transcript was not considered. PACE is a good option, but she would really like to be a full-time Longhorn from the get go. What do you think she should do? We are considering filing an appeal based on 1/ class rank increase to auto admit levels, and 2/ major change to Liberal Arts. You had success with your appeal, so any suggestions you might have for us would be much appreciated!

My child was put on wait list and offered PACE/ CAP. She applied to McCombs

In State - Hispanic - Fully bilingual with international travel/ living experience in Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
Full IB- GPA (w/uw) 4.5/3.6 - Top 8%
SAT: M:700 - CR-600- W-700
National Hispanic Scholar
Soccer Varsity - lots of xtra curricular
Work experience in sales, customer service and marketing events
Deca 3rd place state competition.

Her class mate (African American) with similar stats (but not bilingual, no international travel experience, no sports, no National Merit award, etc) was accepted to McCombs

I was pushing her to go to ASU (Barrett Honors College) with dual major (Marketing and Econ) on Business Honors at WP Carey with a full tuition scholarship plus yearly stipend (will cover room). From a return-on-investment and price-to-quality ratio perspectives that made more sense to me. I am kind of happy with McCombs decision, that helped my case.

@sweet425‌ that’s a great reason to appeal perhaps they did.when you apply for the appeal click error rank appeal explain your story. But to be considered top 6% you have to be between 6%-6.1% so technically you’re top 7% sorry. But still appeal you have nothing to lose.

@Collegemom93‌ same for your child. If her rank can move to 6.1% at least you’re now auto admission and you have a chance to get in.so just move that rank up and send the transcript in.

Calling doesn’t help that much

@135pipe Thanks for your feedback. FYI, auto admit this year is still 7%. So the kids that are 6.9% should be within auto admit range.

When I submitted my application, I was top 11%. My rank went up to 8% could I appeal to get into PACE?

135pipe do you by chance still have your appeal?

@135pipe do you still have your appeal?

No I don’t have my appeal I am sorry

Oh okay in that case then you should be okay to appeal.
Anyone can appeal just add new information to give yourself a better chance. I would wait till your rank moves up to auto to appeal. But if that takes too much time then just appeal soon.

I couldn’t find a deadline for appeal. Is there one?

@cheemu. I had called the admissions office and they told that it would be 3 weeks from the date of filing.

@zubear Thank you. So, is appeal a 2 step process? I am ready with the documents I want to send them. Can I email them all the documents and the covering note in one shot right away?

@cheemu‌. My son had applied for biology and he got CAPed. His transcripts were incorrect with wrong GPA, class rank and number of service hours. We sent the official transcripts, letter from the school explaining the situation and uploaded them to

bealonghorn.utexas.edu/appeals

Thats the only official process, as far as I know. I dont think email would work.

Z.

@zubear. Thank you. Met with the counselor today. There has been a mistake in my DS’s case too. DS got the transcript emailed to him. He should only email through the appeals site and the counselor cannot do it. Pls correct me if I am wrong. There are about 4 documents that we have, that needs to be uploaded. Can DS upload all of them himself or should the school document come from the school?

@cheemu. We did it ourself including the transcript. I think there is an option on the appeals site to request to school to upload directly.

@zubear thank you very much.

Good luck I hope they accept yalls appeal

Has anyone heard back on their appeal from UT for Fall 2015? Its been a while and we are in a waiting mode.

My son filed his appeal on March 5 and has not heard back; however, it was awaiting the arrival of a couple of snail mail rec letters for awhile to be complete. In the meantime, he did get off the waitlist, but into Undergraduate Studies, not McCombs. His appeal is based on first semester senior year, rather than any sort of mistake.
