***Official UT Austin Class of 2021 - Admission Decision Thread***

Hey! So it looks like the first round of major acceptances have gone out, but there’s still plenty of time left. I’m a little surprised I got my decision so early because I’m not auto admit (might just be the major I chose though). I thought we could start an admissions decision thread for class of 2021 since one doesn’t exist yet.

This is mine.

College: College of Liberal Arts

Stats

SAT: Math 730|Reading 800|Writing 750
SAT IIs: Literature 790|Biology 770|Chemistry 720
GPA: 3.85 (unweighted) and 4.5 (weighted)
Rank: 65/802
Other stats: 4s and 5s on 6 AP Exams

Subjective

Essays: I thought they were good. Writing is my strongest point.
Teacher Recs: Orchestra teacher (excellent, I read it), English teacher (didn’t read but she is very selective about recs)
Counselor Rec: probably pretty generic, I go to a big school
Hook (if any):

State or Country: Houston, Texas
High School Type, Relative Competitiveness (1-5): 4, pretty darn competitive
Ethnicity: Asian
Sex at Birth: Female

Other Factors: 2 officer positions in National Honor Society, numerous awards in art and orchestra, national awards in debate and Future Business Leaders

I’ve also applied to Plan II Honors and Liberal Arts Honors (fingers crossed!!).

College: Red McCombs School of Business

Stats

SAT: 2250 (750 CR, 770 Math, 730 Writing, did not submit)
SAT IIs: N/A
GPA: 4.0 UW, 118.33 W (100 point system)
Rank: 1/607
Other stats: National Merit Semi-finalist, National AP Scholar by end of junior year (all 5’s on 8 AP exams, 6 in progress plus I plan to self-study AP Microeconomics)

Subjective

Essays: Decent, submitted 2 plus the BHP essay
Teacher Recs: Submitted 1, 10/10
Counselor Rec: N/A
Hook (if any): N/A

State or Country: Texas
High School Type, Relative Competitiveness (1-5): 6A public, 4 in competitiveness
Ethnicity: White
Sex at Birth: Female, cisgender

Other Factors: I’ve competed at the state level in French and music for all of high school, and have held numerous leadership positions in my school’s marching and concert bands. I think my weaknesses lay in not having any business ECs (I go to a relatively new high school so we don’t have any kind of business orgs like FBLA), not taking SAT IIs, and not submitting a counselor rec. on the other hand, I think having more unique ECs (for instance, I helped start a flute choir at my school) made my application stand out, and I got into McCombs! Now I’m just waiting on BHP.

Can’t wait to have y’all as my classmates next year!

Didn’t expect to hear so soon as OOS

If you apply to the regular business school and haven’t heard a decision, but then apply to BHP, will they alert you later or sooner? Will they tell me about the regular business school first or just wait until BHP decides? Thanks!

Some people get accepted into McCombs first and then they get their BHP decision

yeah i had a friend like that @honeynut12

S got his Mccombs decision last week as an OOS student. Then this week he got the call from BHP of acceptance. While I do not know for sure, I think his bhp acceptance, jump started the McCombs acceptance. if not for BHP, he might have not heard until February.

@BigPapiofthree where are you guys from?

@G_span, S lives in California

Any other OOS receive decisions? My daughter applied to CNS by 10/15 deadline. Still hasn’t heard. Also applied to CNS honors. Thanks!

@HankE DS was just accepted to CNS undeclared. He is OOS.
His CNS Honors application is still in review.
