General Comments (if any): Is my backup school if nothing goes right in March, but I’m glad to get into such a great CS program!!!

@ryanyz10 congrats! That’s a very impressive resume. Thanks for sharing your stats and good luck with your remaining schools!

And for those wondering why they didn’t get into BHP, the fact that someone like @ryanyz10 didn’t even get an interview is … interesting.

@TexasMom2017 I’m guessing it had to do with the major combinations rather than stats. BHP has to be combined with another major in the business school. 3 majors at UT (computer science, BHP, and another business major) is a tough sell for 4 year graduation, and they may have questioned the student’s career goals with that combination. It’s actually not surprising, imo.

@itsgettingreal17 you may be right about that. I love UT, but in my observation, they lose many of their most promising potential students because they place so many artificial barriers for students with divergent interests (such as CS and business, engineering and fine arts, etc.). UT is losing those students to other impressive schools that are more tolerant (or even encouraging) of such pursuits. I think it’s misguided. Just my own personal opinion. I work in the business world and think it’s a mistake if they are discouraging BHP students from also pursuing CS.

You will notice on the BHP website that their is a new joint program between Turing and BHP and they are specifically looking for students who plan to double major in Computer Science and Business. They do, indeed, realize the synergies between the two disciplines.

@CollegeParent123 that’s great - so glad to hear it.

Indeed, that was the whole reason I applied to BHP. I’m wondering if anyone has gotten into this joint program, as I haven’t heard of anyone. I’m guessing the reason I was denied was a lack of leadership positions.

Holy cow @ryanyz10 ! Great stats and performance. Very impressive. Congrats - my son was accepted to UT CS too. What part of Tx are you from? Good luck with the other schools.

@ryanz10 S met several students who were admitted to both BHP and Turing while at an event for admitted BHP students. There is still plenty of time to hear from the programs so sending positive thoughts your way!

@Tex151 I actually live in Austin now! Thank you, but I feel like I have good stats, and could have tried harder outside of school…

@CollegeParent123 Already rejected from BHP so no hope there :frowning: but I’m happy with Turing

@bizaucourant I would be shocked if you don’t get into BHP because you have a lot of leadership and a lot of business related EC’s. They love that! Let us know when you are accepted!

@ryanyz10 My D did not get in either. I think she’s in the same boat as you, lots of good stats but seems to lack leadership. She has some but not in a business capacity, i.e. DECA, business club, investment stock club, etc.

In case this is helpful info, neither of my children admitted to BHP had business related leadership. Both had significant athletic accomplishments, were involved in student government and had other unique EC’s… but they never had time in their schedules to take business classes or participate in a business-related EC’s. From our experiences, I believe BHP looks for leadership in any area where the student shows passion and can convey that passion in essays. The more unique their interests, the better,
