Comments: Honestly, I’m a little bit surprised. I really liked UVA and thought I had the stats to attend. However, I think my Virginia essay probably hurt my application. I am a little bummed, but I will be removing myself from the waitlist, as I have already received acceptances to several other schools that I love.

Accepted! College of Arts and Science.

US Citizen living in Pakistan.

SAT: 2050 (730M 640CR 680W)
SAT II: 780 Math II 670 Physics
Essays: I didn’t have anyone read them, other than a few people on the internet, but I thought they were pretty good.
Teacher Recs: They were pretty good. My teachers really liked me and I was one of their favorite students.
Counselor Rec: Amazing. She said she put special effort in mine.
Grades: Had a couple of pretty bad grades but explained the reasons for them, which were reasonable.

Comments: UVA was one of my reach schools since I am OOS and had decent-only stats, so I wasn’t expecting to get in. I guess they really liked my essays, even though they were written last minute. I’m really happy. Just hoping for a good financial aid award now. Also got into Syracuse and Boston, with an excellent aid package from the former.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Congratulations everyone who got accepted- and good luck to my fellow waitlistees. I’m still really suprised and proud of my wait-list status. I’ve been accpeted into great schools and and waiting on decisions from other programs so I’m not sure how UVa will play into all that. We shall see :)

Decision & School: Accepted, College of Arts and Sciences!!

Stats:

In State

 • SAT Verbal:700
 • SAT Math:610 (I really thought that this would be my downfall.)
 • SAT Writing:780
 • SAT Total:2090
 • SAT II: 710 US History, 730 Literature, 630 Biology (Molecular)
 • ACT: 31
 • AP/IB taken/scores: World History 4, Biology 4, US History 3, Calculus AB 3
 • GPA weighted: 3.9
 • GPA unweighted: I have absolutely no idea.
 • Rank or % estimate: My school does not rank, so the top ten percent would be three people…I might be a part of that group and I might not be.

Subjective:

Essays: I worked extremely hard on them. I thought my Common App essays were a little less interesting than my VA ones, but that’s to be expected, I assume.

Teacher Recs: My history teacher and my biology teacher. My school is small so I am rather close to my teachers, especially these two.

Counselor Rec: She knows me extremely well and could provide a lot of insight to my personality, and my academic ability (she’s my AP English teacher too…shh!).

Hook (if any): URM. Also, I come from a partially rural area of Virginia often considered underrepresented. Had I been from farther north, I most likely would have had a harder time.

Location/Person:

State or Country:VA

School Type: Very small and private.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I don’t want to play myself up or congratulate myself. I just want to say that everyone who applied to UVA worked extremely hard, and whether you were accepted, waitlisted, or denied, it showed. My personal opinion is that anyone can thrive anywhere. It doesn’t matter if you go to a well-known Ivy League or a community college. There are so many opportunities available to students at every campus across the country and what really matters is whether or not you plan to take advantage of them. I wish I had taken the time to really enjoy this process, because it taught me so much about my own self-worth and confidence. Trust me, you all are fantastic, and no college should EVER convince you otherwise.
