[li]Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Virginia Tech, Clemson, JMU, and Uconn [/li][/ul]General Comments: After getting deferred in early action, I am surprised I got in. It’s not impossible to get in with lower than average SAT’s; someone has to be at the lower end of admissions.

Charlie – you are totally right. The SAT is much easier today than it was back when we took it (during the mesozoic era).

First, they have in fact changed the curve from the olden days. A 700 is a lower percentile today than it was way back when. Changing the SAT curve is just one more example of today’s woosie-fied culture – participation ribbon and a juice box for everyone – good job!!

Second, we all used to take the SAT stone-cold and just once. None of this mamby pamby tutoring and retaking and super-scoring. No option to go ACT if the SAT wasn’t to your liking. No paid surrogates to take the test for you. No boost from your friend’s adderall stash. You just stepped up to the plate and gave it one big rip.

Third, we were all cold and tired when taking the test (since we walked in the snow uphill to get to all testing sites).

So Charlie, be proud of your old school SAT score! And be glad you applied to UVA back when you did, because there’s no way you’d get in today (me either).

Repost from the other thread:

Decision: Accepted

College and Program: Arts and Sciences (Theatre, intending to double up with International Studies)

Objective:[ul]

[] SAT I (breakdown): 800, 670, 790. Top 25% on two, Bottom 25% on one.
[] ACT: 35, 29, 36, 30 and 35, 27, 35, 36. Both come out to a composite of 33, with a 34 superscore.
[] SAT II: 800 on US History and Molecular Biology
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.85
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): My school does not rank
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): (5) Biology, U.S. History, European History, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, English Language.
[] Senior Year Course Load: Honors Calculus, Student Assistant (think like a high school T.A.), AP Psychology, Chorus, AP US Gov, AP Latin, AP English Literature, Honors Physics.

[] Additional Rec: One from my Drama director of four and a half years.
[] Interview: N/A
[li] Supplementary Material(if any): Theatre Supplement
[/li]

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Single Parent, estranged from my father. My Mom’s a Legacy.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Verbal Scores, Essays, Legacy, Counselor Rec, broad transcript.
[] Weaknesses: Math Scores, White Male, Out of State.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Probably a mix of all factors. The Legacy factor probably helped.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: So far Accepted at Northwestern and William and Mary as a Monroe Scholar. Waiting to hear from Williams, Yale, Brown, Columbia, and Dartmouth.

[/ul]General Comments:
I had a feeling I’d get in, but I know that with a school as tough as UVA, nothing is for sure. Good luck to everyone else in your future endeavors!

LOL, Northwesty–love this. My parents went out of town the night before my SAT and I decided to have a few friends over after the football game…turned into a huge party that included the cops. I probably should have taken the SAT a second time…LOL. Not my best, I’m sure!
