Essays: 8/10 across the board; wrote about being called a “whitewashed” Asian and denying my heritage, only to accept myself despite the people around me. For the UVA specific one, I wrote about painting Beta Bridge with chalk paint and allowing people to write their goals and dreams on it. Cheesy, I know.
Teacher Recommendation: Waived FERPA, so I’m just going to guess it was a 10/10. Written by my APUSH teacher, who said I was the most energetic and intelligent student he had ever met. I hope it was good; I wish I could read it.
Counselor Rec: 7/10; she knows me very well, but I have a feeling it was a bit generic.
Additional Rec: 9/10; from my AP English Lang teacher; I loved her class very much and it was evident in my grades and exam score. She’s an English teacher after all, so I assume it was more than decent.

Reflection
Strengths: My EC’s, activities, and course load, for the most part. I tried to challenge myself and be well-rounded, and I hope that’s what I showed.
Weaknesses: TEST SCORES!!! Gah, I regret not studying for those tests now! If any UVA '22 is reading this, please please study for your tests! I feel like if I had just tried harder on them, maybe my application would’ve been stronger.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Test scores, I’m Asian, yeah.
Schools were you accepted/waitlisted to? Accepted: UofSC, Clemson, College of Charleston Honors, Alabama Honors, UC San Diego; Waitlisted: UCLA; Denied: UVA, Duke, UNC, most likely Berkeley soon
General Comments: Getting deferred was not fun, and getting in OOS is much harder than I had anticipated. I wish I could’ve done better on my tests, but I can’t change that now. I will be attending my in-state school on a near-full ride, so it all worked out. UVA will always have a special place in my heart, and hopefully I will be able to attend as a graduate student in the future. Good luck to all!
