Surprisingly, no thread for UVA has been created so far, so here it is. Post all you desire about transferring into UVA fall 2010.

I am currently a freshman at UW-Madison
My GPA this semester is a 3.58
Freshman Composition: A
Literature: A
401 level foreign language: AB (this is a 3.5)
Econ 101 (micro): B

My HS gpa was around a 3.75 (unweighted) my school didn’t have AP classes
SATS:
650-reading 670-math 710-writing (2030/1320) SAT 2: Math 1- 710
I had pretty good ecs in high school
I was in only two clubs this semester but i’m going to join 2 more next semester.

I’m also from out of state. What are my chances like for uva?

I know that UVA has limits on its oos students, so it’s probably more difficult than in-state admission. I don’t know the exact rate, but there is some data available from every uva school and it’s transfer rates.

[UVa - Transfer Admission](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/adm_transfer.htm)

I’m no expert, but I’d think if you’re applying to CAS, you have a decent to good chance.

So how hard is it for an out of state student to transfer into UVA?

For '08 the the oos acceptance rate was about 25% while instate was about 40%.

[IAS Historical Data: Undergraduate Transfer Applicants by Residency](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/trans_by_residency.htm)

for the supplement essays is their a limit on words?

currently a freshman at public university. OOS Transfer

GPA this semester was 3.82, HS GPA was 4.1 with 33 in ACT, lots of AP classes, and lots of extracurriculars. I don’t know how this is going to work for transfer admission but hopefully I’ll make it?

If you want to study at Curry School of Ed, you still have to apply under CAS first, right?

Do they really look at your high school grades? I graduated in 2004, so it would seem pointless.

@yankee11: I’ve read from other threads that a good length is about 400-500 words. That’s about 3/4 page to a page single-spaced. However, there’s no consensus, so you might want to call and ask UVA about that.

@nicolemae:I think you can apply straight to Curry, you don’t have to go through CAS.

@snooks86:I think if you have more than one year of college, they don’t look at your high school transcript, though they still require it, so no, they don’t really look at it if you’re transferring for junior admission. If you’re looking at soph admission, i believe they do look at it.

I am a freshman history major at Ithaca College but I’m looking to transfer to UVa, obviously.
My gpa is 3.6
I am involved in some clubs at school
During high school I had a low gpa (3.0) but around 400 hours of community service
I was a 3 sport varsity captain and on varsity of 3 sports for 4 years
My SATs were lowish 1200 (V&M) but I recieved a lot of awards during high school for writing, community service, and athletics. What are my chances?

@TheEduProject: Not so sure about applying straight to Curry… I just took a look at the Common Application supplement again and the essay only says to write about why you want to be in the 5-year teacher education program, since I have to study at both CAS and Curry to be in that program anyway… hm…

how generous is UVA with financial aid for OOS transfers, does anybody know?

If my answers to both of the questions on question number 2 in the supplement are no, should I still do the essay and just have it be one sentence long saying I’ve been enrolled in college and don’t plan to spend my spring semester out of college?

I’m considering UVA. Can anyone let me know my chances?

I’m currently a freshman at NYU Stern, and would be an OOS student.
Applying as pre-business… will that hurt my chances?

I am currently a freshman engineering student at Virginia Tech and looking to transfer to UVA’s E-school. I applied last year as a freshman but was wait-listed. My first semester GPA was a 4.0 with the following classes (16 credits):

-Engineering Exploration (an introductory engineering course)
-Honors Freshman English
-Linear Algebra
-Vector Geometry (pretty much anything you’ll ever need to know about vectors along with
some other things like polar graphs and complex numbers)
-General Chemistry & Chem Lab
-Knowledge & Realty (Philosophy Course)

My Classes for this semester are (15 credits):

-Programming in Java
-Exploration Engineering Design
-Mutivariable Calc
-Physics I & Lab (Calc-based mechanics)
-Comparative Government and Politics

I am a member of an organization that puts on concerts as well as the snowboarding club.
My high school GPA was 3.9 weighted and 3.5 unweighted. While in high school I attended a Governor’s School for Math and Science. I took 5 AP Tests and had some dual-enrollment courses. While in high school I ran Cross-Country (I was a captain in 11 & 12 grade) and track and was in the honors society. In 12 grade I also had an engineering internship at a national laboratory in a nearby city.

Test Scores:
-SAT - 730 Verbal, 730 Math, 690 Writing (1460/2150)
-SAT US History - 680
-SAT Math 2 - 650
-ACT - 30

Oh yea, and I’m an In-State Student

I am currently a sophomore, but Ive already transferred once before (hope that doesn’t hurt me). I had a 3.4 at Va Tech as a freshman and I got a 3.9 last semester at JMU. Its a double edge sword for me as I already transferred once. They might wonder why I choose to jump around, but then again I have had experience at two VA schools and know the educational atmosphere I was lacking. I am always creative with essays and hope that they won’t be a problem for me. Im applying to the College of Arts and Sciences. Do I have a shot?

Hello Fellow Transfers,

Hi everyone! I’m trying to transfer to UVA in the fall and want to know my chances.
Right now I attend a school within VCCS (I’ve read ~1/2 of transfer seats go to VCCS students)
I had a 3.54 last semester with 3As and 2Bs
After this semester I will have a 3.77 (if I continue to make straight As)
I was inducted into the 2-year college honor society, Phi Theta Kappa.
I also work part-time.
In high school, I was an IB diploma candidate but only scored 20 points (4 points short of the IB diploma).
Still, I graduated with honors and participated in Forensics, MUN, Debate, and was a member of the W.E.B. du Bois Honor Society.
My SATs (taken in '07) were:
Verbal - 690
Math - 620
Writing - 690
for a total of 1310/1600 or 2000/2400.

How are my chances?

do you have to send in midterm grades to uva? it says n/a on the website…
