Official UVA Transfer Thread Fall 2010

<p>Now I see another date as June 1 for the deadline. So lost lol…</p>

<p>Hey Beren! Don’t reconsider! Charlottesville is a great place. I am from the Seattle area, and though I do miss it and enjoy coming back to visit, Charlottesville has become my new home. It certainly is smaller than Seattle–by a long shot–but I think Seattle would be too big. I barely even considered UW because of its size–I feel like you would get lost as just another face. Charlottesville has a ton of great culture and events. Downtown has a small feel (have you been to the downtown outdoor mall? it’s a very cool place), but the city as a whole is more than adequate in size. As for the size of UVA itself-- it has a sizable student population, but the history and traditions make it feel much smaller, in a good way. I like the size in that its large enough not to get bored, but not so big that you get lost in the crowd. I sure hope you end up at UVA–its a pretty special place!</p>

<p>To supertme41 and everybody else asking questions about housing… I am a rising second year and so have done the dorm thing, but am moving off grounds into a house with 5 other girls for the fall.
Go with on-grounds if you want something simple–there are plenty of people who are looking to give up their on-grounds contracts. Know, however, that on-grounds does not necessarily mean closer to class. Lambeth, the major on-grounds upperclass apartment complex is a good walk from most classes, and many of the other options are even further. If you are a social person who is hoping to make friends quick, I would recommend staying away from anything in the Hereford area–it is far away and somewhat secluded, plus many of the rooms are singles so my friends who lived there last year said it can be hard to meet people.
You’ve probably heard to many if not most people move off grounds by their second or third year. And in the same as before, off grounds does not automatically mean further away. There are several apartments that are closer to many classes than my first year dorm was. Most houses and a few of the big, well advertised apartments (such as the GrandMarc) are a little further walk, but still perfectly manageable. As far as distance goes, one thing to think about is where most of your classes will be. Those of us in schools like the engineering, architecture, or art schools, tend to have most of our classes in one general location, so it would be worth finding an apartment or house on that general side of grounds. For people in the college, your classes could really be anywhere, so anywhere close to central grounds (think near the corner or on JPA) shouldn’t be too far of a walk.
So how should you find a place to live? If you are set on living on-grounds, go ahead and contact UVA housing ([Undergraduate</a> Transfer Students, Housing Division, U.Va.](<a href=“http://www.virginia.edu/housing/transfer.php]Undergraduate”>http://www.virginia.edu/housing/transfer.php)). Or, look for someone who is trying to get rid of their on-grounds contract. For off-grounds, there are a lot of people–myself and my housemates included–who are looking for another person or two to fill their house or apartment. I would suggest looking on craigslist, or uloop.com. Uloop is a cool site, it is like craigslist for specific universities. There you will find a HUGE number of ads looking for an additional roommate, or you could also post your own ad looking for housing. This would be a good place to look for people trying to give up their on-grounds contracts as well.
Hope this info is of some help. Feel free to contact me if I can answer any questions about housing or anything else UVA related. I am an out of state student, so I guess I understand a bit of what it feels like to be coming in knowing no one.
And if you are second or third year girl looking for off grounds housing, drop me a line. We are looking for one more person to fill our 6-girl house on 14th street. I can tell you that the 4 other girls are AWESOME, fun people. And if you are looking to live in an apartment, contact me too, because one of my friends is desperately looking for someone to take over her apartment lease for next year.
Best of luck!</p>

<p>Has anyone else that has sent in final transcripts found that SIS says that no transfer credit was given?</p>

<p>What’s everyone doing for housing next fall? I heard most students move off-campus either their soph or junior year, so I was thinking about the Grand Marc.</p>

<p>has anyone received word on the waitlist? I read the blog and they said that they released a batch of emails.</p>

<p>do you check the email or in SIS, i was under the impression that we were suppose to check our sis daily…</p>

<p>if you go to the blog, uvatransferadmission.blogspot.com, they’ve sent out a batch of emails and some calls have gone out. however, this wont be the only round of emails so we still have hope (i didn’t get an email). they say they will be closing the waitlist at the end of june though.</p>

<p>anyone know how many offers will be given out from the waitlist?</p>

<p>would you guys say that it’s recommended to transfer after one year or two?</p>

<p>anyone? :(</p>

<p>my grades in high school weren’t that good. So I transferred after two years.</p>

<p>Hey guys, I was hoping someone could help me out in trying to figure out what would help me increase the chances of getting accepted to UVa. I’m currently finishing up my freshmen year at a Florida University.
College:
*3.4 GPA (went down because I missed a final, leaving me with a C- for Cal)
However, most likely will be up to a 3.5 by end of Fall 2009. (which still sucks but it happens).
*Relatively active:
*NCAA
*NSCS member
*Phi Alpha Delta Pre-law Fraternity
*Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society qualifier but denied it
*Dean’s list for two semesters
*Volunteer at Florida’s Capitol Museum
*Outloud Magazine/newspaper staff writer
*Currently on Scholarship
*Might intern at Attorney General’s office
*Currently working</p>

<p>High School- had ok grades, but nothing really stands out. Just enough to get me and in-state scholarship. Was fairly involved in clubs & sports, but nothing major.</p>

<p>I am looking for what my chances are and what I can do to improve them. I know the GPA is kind of low, but the Cal was almost unpredictable as it was a last min thing that I could not make the final, but it’s really weighing down my GPA.</p>
