Official UVA Transfer Thread Fall 2011

As you can tell by my frequent posting, I’m in exactly the same boat. It’s honestly become worryingly compulsive…

O.P.

I got some good news today–one of my back up schools posted my financial aid award! At least I know I’ll be somewhere next year! (though stuck in a seemingly insurmountable amount of debt)

brishe, through the WM college confidential page and their blog into the mix and I’m right there with you. I’m trying to hold onto the last bits of sanity I have but the wait is really driving me crazy. I’m a first year transfer so I know the odds are against me but I’m trying to stay positive :)

Vtechtransfer, how was your HS GPA/SAT scores?

Brishe, congrats on the financial aid award!

Just spent half an hour inspecting the element and frame code of the SIS page that says to come back May 1st for a possible back door to finding out my admission status. Chrome does this really well, but can’t say I was successful… haha

The farthest I got was seeing that the html for my UVA decision was identical to my UNC decision which was an acceptance…so maybe I got in? But I know it’s a long shot!!

From NoVA

HS gpa was a 3.9 weighted. IB Diploma
SAT 2170
gpa at tech is 4.0

vtechtransfer, honestly I think you’re in

agreeed. all of your stats are intimidating. it’s freaking me out guys, cut it out.

Well thanks guys. But there’s no way I’m getting my hopes up until I officially see the decision–as I’m sure most people can agree…

That’s what what I think is the hardest part about this process. We all have so many reasons to feel really proud…to feel like we really deserve this acceptance…but with a school like UVa you just never know.

And so we wait…trying to keep our hopes down and convince ourselves if we are rejected that it’s OK (knowing full well that it’s NOT ok) :)

Good luck everyone!

Well said!

Ha, I was about one step away from trying to see if I could figure anything out by looking at the back end of the decision page…

It’s just nuts how neurotic it’s making me; between the timing of the view decision, to Financial aid to-dos, to that email- all of it turns into some crazy pattern that doesn’t exist.

vtechtransfer: well put, it’s hard to feel like there is so much uncertainty, while at the same time feeling so strong about what you’ve achieved. Not looking forward to the emotional mess that will make if both of my schools pass on my application.

sooooo i think the html/address/accept thing might be a big deal. is there anyone who is not able to do this?

There were one or two people who had the check mark but not the page. When I first noticed it I was almost sure it was something definite, but it seems the consensus here was that it most likely means nothing.
Maybe I am hesitant to get my own hopes up, but I don’t think it should be read into too much.
It isn’t Sunday yet? Damn.

If you can do it on Firefox, its a big deal. Otherwise, I wouldn’t give it much thought.

I almost feel bad about shooting it down, and looking crazy at the same time, but I did a bit of googling. I’m not sure if it’s the same system, but according the pdf page 323 of this: Oracle Peoplesoft Index Redirect, no, it really doesn’t mean anything. If you look at the link that pops up, and compare it to that chart, it appears it’s just the default value when there isn’t anything to accept or decline yet…

hey, i was wondering - did anyone get a fin aid to-do after getting a check mark that wasn’t planning on applying for fin aid at all? and does the accept thing only work on firefox? not chrome or IE?

Thanks for clearing that up! At least now I understand why the link is what it is. I think you deserve to be accepted just because you figured that out  haha

@PenelopeOdysseus Impressive how did you find that?

@SierraLeone: I actually looked at the HTML for the “acceptance” page, which had a copyright notice for oracle on it. Then looked some mention of which oracle system UVA used, and then googled that system along with a bunch of options for various educational keywords, and voila, the handbook showed up.
