Official UVA Transfer Thread Fall 2011

I got the check mark on monday and see no such accept admission page in my history. Using Firebox, if it matters.

Also

OOS
College GPA 3.9
43 Credits- 61 at end of Spring
Applying to CAS

I get that too when clicking the Financial Aid link. Also, and I’m probably just being hyper-observant here, but I have a spot for a “UVa Email Address” which says none assigned in my personal info box. as well as a box to the right that says Program Advisor - None Assigned. I never noticed either of these before but I’m assuming they’ve always been there. It is seeming more and more that I was overly hopeful the accept admission page thing meant anything—oh well, back to the endless wait.
And while I am always a fan of devious schemes, I think waiting 18 more days is a bit better than 20ish years in prison for kidnapping.

My stats:
OOS, Sophomore, CAS
35 credits at end of current semester, 4.0 GPA
3.05 UW HS GPA, 3.5 W (touched on this in my essays… hoping college GPA and test scores can make up for it)
2280 SAT, 33 ACT
Handful of state and national DECA awards, some other business related ECs; also have had a ~25 hr/wk part-time job for the last 2 years
I thought my essays were well-written and creative, they also spoke to how I have had a passion in business and marketing since 10th grade

were not gonna get caught man, anyway i tried the accept admissions thing on firefox, i cant see it, though i could on safari…so i think that puts a serious damper on the whole affair but who knows

Program Advisor has always been there, unfortunately haha.

Yeah I figured as much. And yeah, I don’t know why the accept admission page popped up or why it is titled as such but it certainly does not seem to be indicative of anything.

P.S. how can you kidnap someone without getting caught? Even if no one notices they’re missing once you release them they will go straight to the cops… unless he goes for a little swim with the fishes…

I am using firefox, if that makes any difference. I don’t use Safari.

I couldn’t see an Accept Admission link from Firefox or Google Chrome.

So firefox users can’t see it…

Hooray!

the ‘ac’ doesnt work on my google chrome, but i tried with safari and its there for me too… also says that im not authorized to view it or whatever.
but wow, seriously the smallest things are driving all of us insane haha

I wouldn’t read too much into the ‘accept admission’ thing. It’s possible that it really does mean something but also possible it’s just a glitch in their system. Several colleges (Pomona comes to mind) often have some sort of technical problem right before/around when they release decisions. That said, fingers crossed everybody…

Ah! So nervous… What do you all think:

High School 3.7 unweighted
Governor’s School: 3.9
2040 SAT
5 on AP gov, music theory, us history and 4 on ap art and english lit.
College: 3.1 (to be 3.35 with 62 credits at the end of this semester).
I am an RA in a lab at UVA so I got that professor to write me a recommendation as well.
My extracurriculars include IRC volunteer work, soup kitchens, organizing charitable events, so that should be fine.

Musicmaniaciam,

Where do you go/are you instate or OOS? With almost 62 credits, UVA isn’t going to look at HS too much (I think) but if you’re instate, you should have a fairly strong chance but then again, I don’t know how good your essays are which, in my opinion, weighs most for transfer applicants. That’s just my take on it, anyone else want to weigh in?

musicmaniaciam, your college GPA is kind of low, I think, but if you’re in-state, I don’t know…

Ah, the essays. My supplemental essay was terrible, so if they’re weighted that heavily, I’m probably rejected. Actually, I’m probably rejected regardless.

The essays are a strong point for transfers, because so many have some sort of “I didn’t do well in high school but turned my life around/changed my circumstances” story and it is absolutely necessary to stand out. I agree with hopefultransfer4; your college GPA is not great. You did well enough in high school that they aren’t necessarily looking for an upward trend, but a low B average doesn’t help prove that you’re capable of UVA work (depending on where you go to school now and what kind of grade inflation/deflation is common there). UVA looks at applications holistically though, and I wouldn’t say that you’re out of the running. If you have some leadership ECs, that will definitely help.

Anyone want to share what they wrote their supplemental on? Did anyone choose the “what issue of local, national, international issue is of concern and how does it affect you” or whatever?

We’re at the half way point for the month! Officially 15 days remaining until decisions are out. Keep your spirits high, guys!

I chose that one, Sephyre. I didn’t think I could be creative enough with the first, unfortunately. But I think my essay was decent.

I actually attend the CC down the street from UVA and I am in state (my proximity is the reason I’ve been lucky enough to work as an RA in a psych lab at UVA). I attend a CC because I work full-time. Without putting too fine a point on it (either here or in the application), I left a physically abusive home at 16.

My essays are fine I think. I chose the essay on what to send to space to represent humanity. I actually chose a ballpoint pen; it gave me a chance to link it to real, concrete examples in my life while also allowing that I assign abstract value to something simple like a pen (its facilitation of communication, its simple design, utility). My other essay noted my interest in psychology and my fortune in getting to work in a lab which studies several of the elements of psychology that interest me most.

Hey guys,
Been reading the forums for almost a year now and finally decided to make an account. I’m a NVCC hopeful transfer student and I too noticed that “Accept Admissions” thing on Safari. One more thing I would like to add is that I recently noticed I can search for classes for the fall semester. I’m pretty sure I’ve pressed that button before and yielded an “unauthorized” message. Anyone else notice this, or is it something we were all able to do?

Mcwiggles,

I think everyone is able to see the course offering upon creating an account for SIS. UVA offers a “Community Scholars” program wherein you can enroll in a class with instructor permission and I have signed up for those courses through SIS.
