has anyone tried calling admissions recently about decisions?
See above - they said not today and wouldn’t commit even for tomorrow.
not even tomorrow? Wow
Why are you guys calling admissions? The window is still open, either you get accepted or not. Feel free to refresh your portal all day but please don’t bother admissions staff.
i thought they sent out some of their mail already so wouldn’t some of us get mail by tomorrow or saturday?
If you plan on doing anything in Washington then patience is a must. Nothing happens fast in this state! Look at the bright side, at least you haven’t received the dreaded email!
@immadreamer yeah i believe it depends on where you live, bc places closer to UW will obviously get their packet earlier
Yeah tbh people are being so immature about the admissions thing… like we are applying to college and you guys keep acting up smh if I were an admissions officer I would be so annoyed w all the calls and questions especially since they gave a window and we are not even halfway to the 15th. If anything calls would just slow the admissions office down.
@Sumaya123 no I did not
So just to clarify, it is confirmed no decisions released via portal today? Knowing if there is no decision on portal today would save a lot of people a lot of stress I think.
I hadn’t heard about this. Could you link to the news article that talks about it?
I heard all week that we would find out by the end of this week (today and tomorrow). It’s just kind of upsetting because a lot of us on here were expecting it to be this week. I’m fine with next week but I wish I knew that.
@aweinst yeah… @UWadmissionstaff replied to me on Sunday saying that nothing would come at the beginning of the week, but it would towards the end. All we can do is wait, as we still have tomorrow and Saturday(mail) and technically till the 15th
I don’t think the annoyance over the fact that we haven’t received any decisions yet is compeltely unfounded. I understand that there are thousands of applications for the admissions team to go through and that they want to be thorough. I also understand that they did give us a window, not specific date, of when we will be notified. Therefore, technically it shouldn’t be a surprise that not everyone has heard yet, since the window isn’t closed. What is weird, at least to me, is the fact that no one has heard/decisions haven’t even been released.
To give some perspective, let me explain what happened last year. I also applied last year as an incoming freshman. The window given was March 15-30 with applications being due the previous December (I believe it was the first, but don’t quote me on it). From what I remember, I saw via social media that people started receiving their acceptance packets on the 16th; these people lived in Washington near the Seattle area. I received my waitlist email on March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day lol) at around 7 pm. As you can probably guess, I wasn’t accepted off of the waitlist; I don’t believe that anyone was. I ended up taking a gap year for health reasons, so now here I am in this thread, again.
Long story short, it’s just kind of odd to see the difference from last year, as someone who has experienced this stress before. I’m so happy to have this thread and UWadmissionsstaff to help ease some of the stress, but we are halfway through the deadline now. I don’t doubt the hard work that the admissions team has put in, but it is hard to keep waiting. Personally, I am semi-okay waiting another week, simply because I’m used to it and honestly don’t think I’ll get in. I’d just like to know.
I hope this was helpful to someone. Good luck, and go dawgs!
Not sure if it is well known but there is a service called “informed delivery” that is free by the US Postal Service. You sign up and you can see what is coming in your mailbox that day before your carrier gets there. It does not do some of the large envelopes but does do letters and packages. I look at it now each day as my Son is getting a lot of college mail.
@EncinitasJAK , besides large envelopes, junk mails are also not scanned. Sometimes mailings from colleges are classified as Junk since they are marketing materials trying to sell you the college, the same as Macy’s trying to sell you shoes.
Paging through this thread, it’s clear the administrators in Pullman and, perhaps, Bellingham need to get it together as the discrepancy in angst and forum traffic is astounding.
Relevant to the topic at hand, while I understand your about your admittance, I’d make a suggestion–stop checking the portal, put a “check the portal” reminder appointment on your phone for next Thursday at 1800 hours and go play soccer or something. For those of you who are upset that this is pushing towards the end of the range, I’d ask you a simple question–how frequently do you complete assignments the night before they are due? Organizations are fundamentally similar when it comes to deadlines which means the admissions staff cares about meeting their 3-15 date and not a whit about hitting it earlier.
An additional relevant question: with the $$$$ UW spends on IT, why not release all the information en masse? Pure speculation: it’s technically possible but the downstream effects are too taxing so release it in chunks to even out the workload (e.g. angry/bereft emails/calls from rejected applicants or “what’s up with financial aid?”). From watching this last year, I do have one (admittedly anecdotal and, quite probably, wrong) observation–Friday notifications appeared to be rejection heavy which I could see being intentional as the weekend provides a natural “cooling off” function with a concomitant call reduction. While the last day this year is a Thursday, I could see something similar happening with a twist–everyone takes the 16th off to celebrate the 2018 admissions denouement.
Shrug, that was too long so I’ll just end with a relax and good luck.
Well if the distance from UW matters, I live a mile or so away and I haven’t gotten anything yet nor is anything coming for me tomorrow…
Just signed up for informed delivery (again)…can’t remember or find old username. Worth a shot!
I miss WolfBlood…
