When do waitlisted people typically hear back?
Keep in mind that the tiny sample you’re seeing here on CC is absolutely NOT representative of all students who applied. Drawing conclusions about acceptances based on the students who seek out CC and post here is unwise. Even drawing in data from friends and others from your immediate community is still not a full picture of applicants and acceptances. In other words, the students who post here are mostly high end outliers, not the average Joes who do also get in.
There are plenty of students out there who were accepted to UW whose numbers alone (even taking into account rigor of coursework) would lead one to believe they should not have been accepted. Then there are those whose numbers seem flawless and are rejected. Holistic admissions can be hard to swallow because it evaluates soft qualities like leadership and creativity, but it’s designed to not only get a balanced class, but one that is full of happy students who stay 4 years, graduate, and contribute to the community.
Rejection hurts but it means Admissions didn’t think you would be a good fit to thrive. Trust that, dust yourself off if you’re disappointed, and kick a** at a school that decided you would be a great addition to their community.
@toothbrush1229 May 15-August 1.
If you got in from the waitlist would you go?
Each major has its own admission pathway, and some include early admission. The link below includes a list of the undergraduate majors. Each major links to the General Catalog, where you can learn more about its admission requirements and options.
Yes. Although, logistically it would complicate my back-up options.

need to see financial aid and scholarships before i decide, but i love UW
Accepted DA to Engineering
OOS, WI
ACT: 32
GPA UW: 3.98
Challenging courseload and lots of ecs
Could someone speak to the social life at Washington? Are there parties or is it pretty quiet?
Seattle itself is an amazing city and there is always something to do. Same goes for UW, lots of sororities and frats, and since the campus is so huge, you can easily find a balance between a social life and focusing on your studies. Im going in as a freshman so I can’t speak from experience but I can speak for seattle and what it has to offer
Accepted!
In-state, resident
Intended major: Business Administration. Recieved: pre-major Arts and Sciences

Camodian Heritage
Great Essay and free responses. Showed huge financial need and family emergencies that greatly effected grades and test scores.
Essay: about moving to America and finding the cultural perspective that seperates me from other individuals and has allowed me to embrace the sacrifices my family has made for me to obtain and formulate these dreams that have made me who I am.
Lots of ECs:
-Student Government/ leadership (3 yrs) ASB Officer
-Interact Club, Be the Change Club, International Club, National Honor Society
-Lots of Comm. Service (300+)
-City Council Student Liaison (a part of a Students in the Community pilot program)
-Member of a Youth task force for at risk youths in the community
-Audubon Center guide/councilor for 6th grade field trip
-annual volunteer at the Irrigation Fest and Lavender festival as an Ambassador
-Food Bank student volunteer every saturday
Honestly believe that my essay and free response are what got me into my dream school. For those that dont have good test scores or GPAs and are worried about their decisions, numbers dont define you. Accepted or not. I am so grateful that UW’s admissions really do punctuate a holistic review even though some may think otherwise, because surely without them ready my essay, I know I would have been a reject.
I wish you all the best of luck! The next four years of our lives are going to be so profound wherever it may be. And see ya next fall, Huskies!

Does anyone know if students who are accepted off the waitlist can be direct admitted to their major, or will UW first go to the admitted students who didn’t get their chosen major? OOS waitlisted; applied to engineering.
Decision: Accepted! (Anthropology)
OOS
ACT 33
GPA: 4.28 W, 3.8 UW
Requested Majors - Anthropology, Biology (Physiology)
I was looking at the http://admit.washington.edu/apply/freshman/admission-to-majors/#direct-major page and saw that Anthropology is one of the majors that you come in as Pre-Major. However, when it states my assigned major it says Anthropology and not Pre-Social Sciences. Is that an error?
Still no email or update to my portal. Should I assume at this point I have been waitlisted?
@shortstack28, it may be. Although you can declare the anthropology major at any time, it seems you would need to declare formally at the department to change your student record from pre-social science to anthropology.

https://anthropology.washington.edu/major-anthropology
Congratulations and good luck!
Edit: Looking at your academic stats, maybe the department wants to claim you first. Great job!
When you access your unofficial transcript there is a math level and language level displayed what do they mean exactly, and do they have any affect on what you have to do in college. Kind of confused? My math level is 5 and I currently take IB SL Math 2.
For anyone looking at stats in the future…
Accepted in-state/resident (Asian, if you care…)
Intended major: Capacity-Constrained, Recieved: Pre-Sciences
SAT: High 1400’s
GPA: 3.83 UW, 7APs including 12th grade
Essays: P serious, & perhaps not unique but scream preparedness and sheds some light on a bad experience I had
ECs: 5 different EC’s, all non-academic, not super focused on 1 area, a few leadership positions, mostly done over long periods of time
Vibe of my app: Hey I had some hard stuff in my cushy corner of the world. I’m ready to kick butt now.
Notes: I had a noticeable downward trend (with higher difficulty classes) and I DID have a C+ so if someone out there younger than I is stressing–stop. I did NOT appeal to how much I wanted to go to UW, even if I did. They don’t take account of that anyways so save it for if you are stuck on the waitlist. I have other ECs that I didn’t pen down because I thought they “didn’t count”. Whatever activity that makes you happy could very well be an “EC” so never sell yourself short! Feel free to message me if, for whatever reason, you have a question, need an ear for all the stress (like everyone on CC), or would like unfounded teenage advice lol.
