***Official UW Class of 2022 Decision Thread***

Has anyone gotten a purple or gold scholarship yet?

how do i see which major i have been assigned? Where do i go in the portal???

I was accepted into Computer Science! The unofficial transcript was wrong in the portal for me, because it had said Pre-Science. Under Additional Information, it says “Assigned Major: Computer Science.” I now have a confirmed Direct Admit to CS!

Stats:

In-State
ACT 35 (only took once)
SAT 1530 (National Merit Finalist)
MATH A - 800
GPA 3.9 uw
College GPA 4.0 uw
AP CS - 5

My essay prompts were basically about how I’d like to learn, and contribute to UW. I don’t know if they were any good, or not.

Instead of lots of AP courses, I took around 80 credits at the community college (which are comparable to AP); incl 2 courses of Calculus, Engineering Physics, 2 of English, and 3 courses of Japanese. In the high school building, I focused on AP CS and Piano Lab.

My extracurriculars are clubs like National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Key Club, Earth Club, and Link Crew. I won a lot of awards and stuff for merit and community service activities; plus my community college chose me to represent them for a couple of honors. I also tutor students in Calculus, and help special needs students in the younger grades to get into computer programming. I have strong letters of recommendation, like that of achieving goals and giving back to the community despite adversity (due to autism and epilepsy, which I tend to keep private). Some of my teachers just know I have medical issues to work around. In the future, I hope to help other people accomplish their dreams, esp those with special needs.

I didn’t expect to get a DA; but I’m looking forward to going to UW as a CS major!

D accepted Direct to College of Engineering

Any OOS students receive packets at home yet? Any word on scholarships ? Curious if people are getting any?

admittance letter correctly stated ‘Resident’ instead of ‘Non Resident’ shown on the portal in case others had this issue.

Here is what I have gathered from previous posts by UWAdmissionStaff:

  1. Majors: If your assigned major is Computer Science, Business Administration, or Engineering - Undeclared; Congratulations! You were admitted directly into those programs. If you applied for any other Direct to Major programs, you will be assigned pre-major and direct entry will be determined in 1-2 weeks as the website states. For all others, pre-major will be assigned but you are not stuck in "social sciences" if you really want to pursue "arts". It's more or less a fancy word for undeclared. I encourage you to read: http://admit.washington.edu/apply/freshman/admission-to-majors/

UWAdmissionStaff posts 167, 168 and 176:

“Honors decisions will follow a few weeks after regular decisions. The timeline is posted on their website: https://honors.uw.edu/apply/freshman/

The Purple & Gold scholarship (for U.S. non-residents) goes out with the offer letter, but all others go out with the financial aid award.

Financial aid notifications are typically sent approximately 2 weeks after admissions notifications.”

So, what this means to me is that all the non-CS/BA/Egn’g majors automatically get assigned pre-major if you applied Direct to Major (like Biology). And direct entry won’t be determined until 1-2 weeks later. So if you requested Biology, you will be assigned Pre-Sciences, and in 1-2 weeks, you will find out if you get direct admit to Biology or if you will need to apply to it.

waitlisted.
Male, Asian.
environmental engineering
OOS
UW GPA: 3.65
SAT: 1450
EC: tons of ECs
Essay: decent but worked well with my ECs and major

does anybody know if im accepted off the waitlist will i become a pre-eng major? or will i not be admitted as any type of eng major. im assuming direct admission is out the window now.

@SeattleMom1, one minor edit to your last paragraph: Biology does not have a direct to major pathway. On the webpage linked below, only the majors in the section titled “Direct to Major” have a direct to major pathway. I think what you stated is correct if you had used “Biochemistry” or “Chemistry” as your example.

Also, some majors, such as Physics, can be declared at any time, according to the General Catalog, but until the major is formally declared, the student’s record will show “Pre-Physical Sciences.”

UW is her top choice and feeling a bit blindsided at the moment. Guess it was the SAT scores, which we knew could be an issue.

Has anyone received the UW acceptance letter in the mail? I got my decision online, but haven’t received the actual letter. I’m curious as to whether anyone else has received it.

@RMeatloaf Yeah I got it yesterday. I’m instate though

I’m OOS, so it will probably take a few more days to reach me. Thanks for the info though! Nice to know letters are starting to arrive.

So my D was waitlisted and when we went in to accept the place on the waitlist we checked her portal and found that they had her labeled a non-resident, though she IS a resident. I called the office and we’re in process to have that changed and petition to get off the waitlist, but the guy at admissions said he didn’t think it would have made a difference.

What do we think? Easier to get in as a resident?

@“3boy$$$” I’m curious about the residency error that was in your portal. Did you say that the letter had the residency correct? My daughter got waitlisted and there’s nothing in the email about residency. I’m wondering if she’ll have a better shot at petitioning if the portal changes to resident.

@meredithfp My portal said non-resident but the acceptance letter correctly indicated resident. Several others indicated that the portal had the same issue.

@meredithfp In many cases getting in is a bit easier for state residents. However, don’t let your D put all her hopes in an appeal or waitlist. Encourage her to love the schools that love her back.

@AroundHere Thanks. And we’re definitely encouraging her to love the schools who love her back. She’s got a pretty sweet deal at UofO that would be hard to pass up, but we figure it can’t hurt to go for the appeal and have options.

Accepted! No mail or email, checked my portal and it had updated.

ACT 32,
GPA: 4.02/ 7 AP’s

Accepted last friday - I live in seattle but still no packet in the mail :frowning:
