@ElenaParent , sorry, I didn’t realize you are from the east coast. I would say that your son has even better odds, because the east coast candidate pool is so small and he is guaranteed to stand out.
Wow you guys have amazing stats, I would think you would get in, no?
We are applying from the bay area with a 1480 SAT and only a 3.7 weighted GPA (3.4 unweighted GPA).
History major with all 5s on history AP exams, AP Calculus AB and BC (with 5s on the AP exams but a ‘C’ in the Class for Calculus BC), AP Stats, Varsity Soccer all 4 years, varsity Football all 4 years, volunteer work in our regional parks etc.
Not much else - you guys are amazing, we probably won’t get in:)
@TheFrenchChef as long as the major you are applying for is, well, pretty much anything but CS, you should be fine. CS is, to the extent of my understanding, the most difficult major to get into and is why we are all peacocking our scores around in this thread. If you are not applying directly to a major I would say your acceptance is all but guaranteed.
@w00pw00p that’s nice of you to say, although we are applying for History major, but still think the school is a bit of a stretch – would LOVE to get in and attend though:)
@TheFrenchChef If you go to the UW website you can find the the stats for admited OOS. Your GPA falls under the middle 50%, but your SAT is above the middle 50%. If I remember correctly from the campus tour UW does not accept weighted GPA stats. They evaluate the rigor of your coursework in the context of course offerings at your high school.
@TheFrenchChef I’m in the same situation as you…what state are you from? Fingers crossed haha
In-state applicant
GPA: 3.6 uw
ACT: 35
Extracurriculars include full-day Japanese school on Saturdays; co-founding Science Olympiad club; math club; music, art, and martial arts lessons; tutoring calculus
10 APs total during hs + passed all exams so far
Applied for aerospace engineering! Good luck y’all let’s get this bread
If one apply as direct admit into CS Honors, and does not get accepted into the direct admit program, does UW consider the student for general admission? My child has pretty decent stats (ACT 35, lots of APs all 5’s, good ECs) so he should be fine with UW general admission, but CS direct admit is more iffy.
@GoWolverines yes, you are always considered for general admission.
Few questions…
- Anybody know when decisions are to be release??
- I’m OOS (south Florida) but I was born and raised in southwest Washington. Definitely made sure to highlight that in my application. Anybody think this gives me a catch?
- My stats are: 35 ACT, 500+ hrs of volunteering (hospital, other community work), sponsor of child in Bali (summer trip to visit and assist program), 4 year varsity lax player, president of French honor society (competed/won in multiple state French competitions; active member of French club), 4 years Model UN, treasurer of neuroscience club (2 years), also a Pre-Med student at my school... any thoughts?
Thanks in advance to any responses & merry Christmas/happy holidays to all!
@Finn1313 The decisions were released around March 15 when my daughter applied several years ago. Not sure claiming to once have lived in WA will help your application. State universities have to draw the line somewhere and current state residence seems to be a reasonable and provable criterion to qualify as an in-state applicant. They also ask on the application how many years you have lived in WA state. UW does accept a lot of OOS applicants. They have those stats (# of OOS applications/acceptances) on their website.
I was just checking the 2022 decisions page, and it looks as if the first decisions were released around noon on march 10… my question is, does anybody know what time zone that is? noon EST or noon PST?
I think PST
It doesn’t matter much what time they were released last year; it’s different every year, sometime between March 1st and March 15th.
I have a question about UW that I declared Economics as my intended major while applying but after I get admitted if I want to change to Mathematical Economics, would it be possible or not?
@Singaporekid99 , you can change to (or double major in) other majors once you are in UW. You just need to follow the guidelines to declare your major. Some majors are competitive to get in. I don’t think Mathematical Economics is one of those.
stats:
intended major: computer science
unweighted GPA 4.0
rank: 1/250
SAT: 1530
SAT II: 800(math), 740(Chem)
Washington resident (asian female)
Running start (taking courses in college) with college courses
in computer science (two programming courses and a data structure course), math (Calc III and discrete math), chem (2 courses), econ, etc. All A’s.
EC’s: pretty normal – president of key club, CS intern at a software company, etc.
Crossing my fingers for UW direct admit to CS. Chance for my daughter?
@seattleuw2, your daughter has great chance for UW CS. With their expanded (virtually doubled) admission this year, her chance also doubles last year’s.
My chances?
OOS (from CA), female
Stats: 1370 SAT, 3.66 GPA, volunteer at UCSF hospital for 2+ years, had 5 different jobs, internship for 2+ years, volunteered at a low-income neighborhood, taken 7 AP classes and 3 honors. Played water polo and lacrosse for over 2 years. Strong essays and Hispanic origin. This is just a basic version of what I have done but have done more.
LMK my chances!!
Also intended major is Communication Studies^
