[] Weaknesses: Essay (maybe), GPA, Class Rank
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/ul] I guess because of my GPA. My counselor said she didn’t even send rank
[/li]

Well this is awful. I just lost all hope of ever going to the school I love or being with the girl I love because she goes there. I’ve never wanted to go anywhere else, and even if I do get into a similarly good school, I won’t have the same kind of passion about it. I seriously don’t know what to do now. I’ve never felt so bad in my entire life

@TenaciousE I know that you won’t hear me now because you are very upset and I understand but believe me, the pain will pass, your stats and EC are great and it will get into an amazing school! You will succeed where ever you go. In regards to your girlfriend, you two will find a way to continue the relationship, love does that. Best of luck to you! Cheer up! :)

What school did you apply to TenaciousE?

I applied to A&S

Tenacious, everything will work out.
It happened for a reason… you just may not see it yet.
You will move on, and this will not stop you from getting where you want in life, especially with your stats!

Good luck, and just know i feel your pain :/

TenaciousE, look up the member “hilsa” on here… It seems like CC deleted a lot of the old Vanderbilt threads (or maybe moved them to the 2012/2013 sections?), but she was a girl who graduated at the same time as me ('09) and had been dead-set on going to Vanderbilt her whole life. Everyone on this board was rooting for her, and then she found out her admissions decision–rejected. Everything in her life had basically been in preparation for Vandy, so she got a huge “now what?” feeling. Luckily, she had had the foresight to apply to Emory, a similarly-respected peer institution in another great metropolitan city, was accepted, and now attends there. The last I heard, she was at least satisfied with this decision (I don’t think she posted again after deciding to attend Emory). It’s hard right now, but you will find a college that deserves your talents. This is seriously such a competitive year. I don’t even know if I would get in anymore, and I’m only a sophomore.

And if you’re still heartbroken over it a year from now (highly unlikely): apply to transfer. You never know. You do open yourself up to the possibility of being rejected twice, though.

Decision: Rejected!!

Objective:

[ul] [] ACT: 34
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7
[] Grades in AP/IB/honors classes (if applicable): low A’s
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English, AP Stats, AP Biology, Physics, Latin, Economics
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership and number of years participated in a certain activity in parenthesis): Student Government (4) Latin Club (4) Drama Club (4)
[] Job/Work Experience: Waitress (3), Receptionist at Country Club (2)
[] Volunteer/Community service: 300+ hours over 4 years
[] EC short answer (subject and personal opinions on it): student government, thought it was decent
[] General Essay (subject and personal opinions on it): A book I read and its impact on my life, thought it was sorta unoriginal but really well written
[] Teacher Recommendation (only if you saw it): one was really strong, didn’t see the other
[li] Counselor Rec (only if you saw it): didn’t see it but she writes amazing letters [/ul]
[/li]

Other

[ul] [] State (if domestic applicant): Ohio
[] School Type: private
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): eek, none too specific [/ul]
[/li]

Reflection

[ul][]Strengths: leadership positions (class prez, lax captain all four years), ECs
[] Weaknesses: GPA
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: my GPA[/ul]
[/li]

Wahhh! This is so hard. I wanted to go to Vanderbilt more than anything else and its hard to hear people go on and on about how everything happens for a reason. Wish I believed them.

I feel the same way, Katfish. I’ve been dead set on Vandy since I was in middle school. Everyone’s telling me that “everything happens for a reason,” or “God has a plan.” It would make my life a lot easier if that plan included Vanderbilt…

My counselor told me that I should appeal my decision. I know there’s a very slim chance that it’ll work, but I have to try. I’ve never wanted something so much, and there is some new information that could help me out (new ECs and higher GPA and ACT). I’m not expecting to be accepted, but this is hard. I’ve been trying to fill out supplements for other schools, but I just can’t do it yet…

rejected …damn

charleshc… I’m really sorry, but can you please post your stats to help the rest of us anxiously waiting for our letters?

Decision: Rejected

being an international student doesn’t help me. so sad

How did the acceptance letter start off? ie. “Congratulations” , “On behalf of Vanderbilt” etc

does vanderbilt not defer?

Vanderbilt only accepts or rejects. There has to be special or very strange circumstances for them to defer. It makes sense though…if you can’t even get accepted when it’s easiest (ED), then you’ll have no chance for RD.
