[ b]General Comments:**

Did anyone else hear about regular decision? I thought it was announced closer to April 1st

My guess is that the early decisions are for those that got invited to MOSAIC weekend. It’s more of a likely letter. My letter said that my “official” decisions will come out on April

Reflection

[list] * [] Strengths: Grades, Essays, NMF
[] Weaknesses: No major awards
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Grades, essays
[] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: USC, UNC Chapel Hill, U of Minnesota Twin Cities, waiting for everything else

What is MOSAIC?

It’s a recruitment intiative for minorities to be familiar with all the ins and outs of Vanderbilt’s leadership positions, diversity organizations, and other recreational activities. From what I’ve gathered from the tentative itinerary, parents/prospective students get financial aid/ scholarship info, are hosted by current Vanderbilt students, and participate in social events.

Wow, that’s a nice perk! Unfortunately , my son is not a URM. He’ll have to wait until April 1st. Sigh

Good luck to both you and your son!

Thanks awesomeirl. And congrats to you. Getting into vanderbilt is a great accomplishment. You
Should be very proud!!

I’m going to do this, but gonna give ranges of scores just to try and keep my identity a little more anonymous in case anyone from my school ends up reading this.

[] Counselor Rec: Extremely good. I was one of the few students who actually tried to maintain a relationship with her
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[li] Interview: Good, the interviewer and I had more of a conversation without really focusing a lot on “why this school” or “why are you qualified”[/li][/ul]

Other

Reflection

[ul] [] Strengths: GPA, ECs, Scores
[] Weaknesses: Essays?
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: No clue to be completely honest… what they do in the adcom is always a mystery
[] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: waiting on April. accepted to a few safeties [/ul]

General Comments: Just apply. you really have nothing to lose at all! Even if you think you have the slightest chance, APPLY!

Decision: Accepted by CAS (MOSAIC)

Objective:

[ul] [] SAT I (breakdown): 2120 (690CR, 710M, 720WR, 10E), didn’t officially send but it’s on my transcript and I guess colleges think that that’s official even though it undermines the entire idea of score choice and taking both tests.
[] ACT: 34 (34M, 34S, 33R, 34E w/o essay, 35 w/ essay, 12 essay)
[] SAT II: lol I just got my Jan scores yesterday, and even though Vandy doesn’t want them, I’ll put them here as an act of self deprecation 710 Lit, 750 Math I (Yes, Math One)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): probably around 3.95.
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/227
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 33444555
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): lol my school’s not that good
[] Senior Year Course Load: 3 AP, 2 non-AP. It is light, but I’ve taken all my school’s AP.
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): NHD stuff, NMF, Whatever AP scholar thing my scores correlate to, some lower level debate awards, some state-level awards
[/ul]Subjective:

[ul][] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): band (section leader 3yrs, principal instrument 4yr), Debate Captain, lit anthology editor in chief, a couple more obscure ones that I’m not going to name because I don’t want to be too easy to figure out.
[] Job/Work Experience: professional whiner (err, no)
[] Volunteer/Community service: not really
[] Summer Activities: hanging out with friends, some travel, I don’t think I mentioned any about this on the app
[] Essays: Idk, man. The essay got me deferred from Yale and didn’t win me the Johnson scholarship at Washington and Lee. I had someone look at it after I submitted it, and they said it didn’t focus enough on me myself. I scrapped it and wrote a new essay for basically every other school
[] Teacher Recommendation: probably fine. I know for sure that I don’t have straight-down top 1%s, but how can I really judge this?
[] Counselor Rec: straight down 1%s, but the written part was probably more generic. (He has to do like 80 of them, who can blame him?)
[] Additional Rec: nope
[] Interview: I tried to get one, but the alumna never got back to me. There are only like 8 interviewers on island, and I requested it a little late.
[/ul]

Other

[ul] [] State (if domestic applicant): HI
[] School Type: mediocre public
[] Ethnicity: Twinkie/Golden Oreo/Banana/Whatever else is Yellow and White
[] Gender: F
[]Income Bracket: This isn’t relevant.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): um HI is underrepresented in the South? I have a dashing personality? (I don’t)
[/ul]

Reflection

[ul] [] Strengths: I’m pretty smart, I guess (but it’s still only the 75th percentile of the class). Location, the essay was well-written (even though it was a little off). My courseload is exceptional for my school.
[] Weaknesses: ECs are standard, I’m white and Asian, idk – I feel these are more neutral points that weaknesses. Real weakness is the slight downward trend in grades. I got a semester C junior year, as well as a scattering of B grades for the year.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: idk Funny story: I’ve had a persistent worry that I’d get rejected from Vandy in the last few days and would’ve regretted not applying EDII (which doesn’t make sense, because my first few choices are in the northeast).
[] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: DeferredYale SCEA, Accepted at Bama, University of Pittsburgh, UMD-CP. Save for the automatic Bama scholarship, I haven’t gotten anything in terms of $ yet. (But it’s still early.) If it’s relevant, I did get rejected from certain school scholarship-type things, like UFE at Bama, the Johnson at Washington and Lee, and Banneker-Key at UMDCP (unless some miracle package shows up). Oh yeah I applied to like 15 schools, but there’s still a bunch of time before those decisions come.
[/ul]

General Comments:
YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS OH HOLY JESUS I AM SO EXCITED. FOR REALS. AUGH THIS IS JUST SO SUPER FRIGGING GREAT AND MAKES UP FOR THE LOUSY VALENTINES DAY IT HAS BEEN.

Wait did decisions only come out for “Mosaic” people or everyone?

Certain kids invited to MOSAIC (you get invited, you don’t apply), a multicultural open house type thing, got letters the last few days. We haven’t received official admission packets or anything, and won’t until everyone else, but the letters we got said that we were admitted. Many of us applied RD. However, I presume Vanderbilt is nowhere near done making all decisions, and RD won’t come out for most other people until April. I believe that those earning the CV and other top scholarships will also be notified before acceptances are officially mailed out.

How did they let you guys know? Email or snail mail or portal?

@bananarama15 USPS Priority mail. The portal didn’t have the decision yet

@awesomeirl how about by email?

and @awesomeirl would you happen to know how chancellor’s scholars were notified as well? email or snail mail?

USPS priority mail…snail mail
