Davidson is a great school, be proud

@timetodecide12 Thank you! I really am excited to have been admitted despite my rejections.

@hydrojim just kidding. Rejected.

Maybe we should get back to this:

Decision: Waitlisted School of Engineering

Objective:

ACT: 35: 32(Eng), 35(Math), 36(CR), 36(Sci). Maybe I should have spent time practicing for this…

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 41/349
AP (place score in parenthesis): Calc BC(3), Chemistry(3), Macroeconomics(5), Microeconomics(4), Statistics(4)
Senior Year Course Load: AP US History, AP US Government, British Literature, Physics, Ceramics, Newswriting, Calculus and Analytical Geometry 2, Calculus and Analytical Geometry 3.

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Key Club, Environmental Club(Founder), Varsity Baseball(Co-captain), Year Round Travel Baseball(Co-captain), Peer Tutoring, Science Fair
Job/Work Experience: Lots of work experience. Currently a Certified Associate Trainer at Panera Bread

Summer Activities: Baseball, Alternative Energy projects
Essays: Not really sure. Common App essay was about my experience with failure and Vanderbilt supplement was pretty much an expansion on a topic within my CA essay. They might have liked to see more to me.
Teacher Recommendation: Had both teachers for 3 years and they hold my automotive skills in high regards
Counselor Rec: Slightly better than generic but my counselor is kind of…ditsy…
Additional Rec: I had 2 peer recommendations from peers who know me well and 1 recommendation from a member of the International Society of Automation regarding my presentations on alternatives energies.
Interview: Interview went great and I connected with the interviewer very well

Other

State (if domestic applicant): Ohio
School Type: Public school
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 30K
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation bachelor degree, Life adversity, Science Fair research
Strengths: Test scores, Commitment to Baseball, Science Fair Research
Weaknesses: AP scores, Few bad grades on my transcripts, class rank. My class is probably the smartest class to ever come through my school.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My grades and AP scores in Calc BC don’t look good for a mechanical engineering major. There were issues going on at home which affected all my grades junior year but since the homework in this class was optional, I honestly blew the class off.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: University of Cincinnati(Can’t afford), Cleveland State University. Waitlisted: Case Western Reserve University, Vanderbilt. Rejected: University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, Georgia Institute of Technology.

*I also applied to USMA, USAFA, and USNA but I was medically disqualified from the armed forces. I had nominations from my congressman and one of my senators and thought I was for sure going to get into West Point. It’s been a rough time going through the college admissions process so hopefully I can get off Vandy’s wait list.

@hydrojim…love your sense of humour! Nothing can stop you, you will excel in life…wherever you go to college.

I was waitlisted, but unlike many of the other ones of us, I have not decided where I will go if the waitlist does not work out. It will be one of Richmond, Alabama, Tulane, Miami, and Kentucky. But, I will decide between those five over the next month and then see what happens with Vandy in May.

@oliver007 I hope you’re right. And speaking of excelling… maybe I should get off college confidential and go do something a bit more productive :-B

survivorfan: actually there are several thousand spots on the VU waitlist. I don’t know the odds, but they are way lower than regular decision, which this year is 11%. I wish you the best, and I hope you get an offer.

Decision: Accepted- School of Engineering (computer science)

Hey everyone who has been accepted: have you guys gotten financial aid awards? I applied for need based aid but all that shows up is work study.

upgrad2018…your post is so hilarious! If I were on the admissions committee, I would accept you just for your resilience and wonderful sense of proportion!

@nhdmaniac My son can’t seem to find the financial aid award, either. I know we qualify. Anyone know where it’s located? Or do we wait for the packet?

Some ragrets. If I were to do HS over again I would have joined XC and Track earlier and treated it more seriously.
I did one of these stats things because these really helped me out when I was applying.
Another thing: I applied last minute to every school while I was sipping drank in Mexico on Winter Vacation. Probably didn’t help with the other college decisions.

The financial aid award is located on the financial aid tab on your My AppVU account. It shows the full award. If there’s an issue, you should email financial aid immediately so they can sort it out asap.

Accepted!!! Really shocked!! My AppVU account wasn’t working, and I was joking to my mom that I should just wait from my rejection letter in the mail. Then after many password resets, it finally let me login. The first thing I saw was the Congratulations! at the top of the page. I then proceeded to scream quite loudly… So happy! But now it’s decision time. It’s gonna be really difficult choosing between Northwestern and Vandy…
