General Comments:
Can’t explain my excitement. I’ve said all along that Vandy is the ideal school for me and it’s so great that I got in. I was very worried about money, because we don’t usually qualify for aid, but can’t pay for the 60k a year. Lucky for me though, they offered me 35k a year. Just shows how generous they are. If you haven’t applied to schools yet and you’re worried about money, just apply, and see what happens.

Over the past five years, Vandy has seen crazy growth in the number of applications. It is not possible to continue the type of application growth Vandy has seen. This year, applications are down 5%. Some of this, I assume, is due to demographics: ie, fewer seniors this year compared to last. Any other causes??

[]Essays: The Commonapp essay is one of the best I’ve ever written. I explored how I developed a taste for art because of my relationship with my father. Very real and personal.
I wrote my Vanderbilt essay on being an EMT and the intense experiences I’ve gained. It was very dense and exposed the more extreme side of emergency medicine that I’ve dealt with as a teenager (heroin OD’s, car accidents, etc.).
[]Teacher Recommendation:One from my AP English Lang and Literature teacher for whom I am a TA. Didn’t read, but I believe based on past recommendations that it was excellent.
My Anatomy and Physiology professor from the community college wrote about my classroom experience and the leadership role I took in lab work. Certainly helpful for a non-traditional student.

Reflection
Strengths: Strong focus in chemistry, very good essays and subject test scores

General Comments: Apply to as many schools as possible. Each year, acceptance rates keep going down. As you can tell, had I only applied to 11 schools, there could have been a chance of getting in nowhere. Make sure you work on those essays since everyone starts to look the same with the same stats. Also regardless of where you get in, know that what you do in college counts much more than where you go to college.

General Comments: So happy to be going to Vandy next year, anchor down! The biggest thing I learned from this process is to show interest in colleges. For a lot of applications, I wrote bad essays because I was running out of time. Never make this mistake.
