Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

Hey I’ve been trying to find this thread for a while…I’m glad someone started one!

I am currently a freshman at a public university in Georgia. My High School GPA was not too stellar (2.91). However, I’ve since hit the books and currently have a 4.0 after one semester. I received two 5s on my AP exams (US History and American Government) and a 3 (European History). My ACT score was a 24. My ECs in high school were slim too none. In college, I am apart of Residence Hall Association, Minority Advisement Program, a Leadership Program, Phi Delta Epsilon (pre-med fraternity), Phi Eta Sigma (honors fraternity), and Beta Beta Beta (biology fraternity) . I am a Chemistry/pre-med major. I am a black female (I’m not sure if this would contribute anything to my application). I have three recommendations (two from college professors and one from a high school professor). Do I have a chance of transferring into?

@CaptTShannan

No, I go to Santa Fe College in Gainesville.

And let me tell you, the application process working with this school has been ROUGH.

Submitted my CommonApp along with everything else. Now I’m just waiting for my Registrar’s Report to be inputted and my application will be complete! Then the waiting game.

Glad to see more people eager to transfer to Vanderbilt!
:smiley:
Can’t wait to stress out with you all!

@jaspebra001,

Hey! Where are you applying from?

@CaptTShannan

Did you receive an email for myappvu? Is the checklist updated?

@CaptTShannan

Howdy as well! I’m applying from a large public university in the Midwest. Came as an athlete, now it’s time to crack down on school and prepare for the future!
Does anyone know the average stats to for an accepted VU transfer? I know we all want to know how we stack up, and the anticipation will probably be the death of me.

@macarons,
Yeah! I did, but the checklist hasn’t updated since I got it, unfortunately.

@jaspebra001,

I’m from the Midwest, too. I’m currently at the University of Missouri - Columbia. I’ve talked to a few people that say a near perfect GPA at your university, strong letters of recommendation, and a solid list of ECs from high school and college as well as a good ACT/SAT score (like 30+ or 2000+). I’m kind of nervous that my current college’s acceptance rate (81%) will be seen as negative, although I feel like my application and extra curriculars and recommendations would have been great.

Does anyone know if a high school transcript is required?

They do not specify it on their application checklist. Don’t forget to keep the syllabus for every college class you’ve ever taken. Vanderbilt will require them in order to give you credit.

The high school transcript is required with your final report.

Yay! Another transfer hopeful here! Applying as a sophomore from a UT satellite school

@Juvenis

Awesome! What are your stats?

Lol oh dear.

HS GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.18 W (highest possible: 4.33)
ACT: 33 (36/34/30/32)
SAT: Lol, bad.
SAT II’s: Didn’t bother. That’s the beauty of the ACT, and for all the schools that require them regardless: not worth applying to.
Rank: Didn’t rank, but top 10% (which is the highest they’ll ever report)
HS EC’s: Latin Tutor, Swimming, Water Polo, Filipino Cultural Group at local church, camp counselor for children with muscular dystrophy
HS Awards: Nat’l Latin Exam Summa Cum Laude for 2 years, Cum Laude for 1 year, and Maxima for 1 year (gold, gold, HM, silver). Top student in AP Biology (11th grade) and Latin/AP Latin (9th, 10th, and 12th grades)
AP: All 5s (Latin, Bio, Calc BC, Stats, US History)

College GPA: 4.0 (thank GOODNESS Vandy doesn’t need the Mid-Term)
EC’s: School newspaper contributor, Honors College newsletter editorial contributor, LGBT club, Filipino Student Association
Awards: Dean’s List

18 credit hours last semester, and 18 this one (max. amount freshmen can take per semester)
Includes science courses w/labs (Chem, calc-based Physics), a few upper-level literature classes, and a few social sciences – the school might not be liberal-artsy, but I’m trying my best to make it that way for me.

Honestly, my EC’s are what’ll kill me (and possibly my essay; compared to freshman year, it’s completely lackluster in my eyes). Every single leadership position in all my clubs/orgs are reserved for upperclassmen only, so I’m worried I’ll be seen as average compared to everyone with leadership status.

I want to transfer because a) school’s too big, b) it’s a commuter school, so the campus feels apathetic and lonely, c) more challenging academics, d) humanities and arts are really weak. I’d be a bit nicer, but if you look at the course offerings and internships available (none, btw), it’s pretty clear the school adopts a “liberal arts is bunk” motto, and e) Doesn’t offer the major I want (Classics). I didn’t realize this until after freshman year cycles were over, so I never bothered applying to Vandy. I didn’t exactly see myself as a liberal-arts kind, but I do now. Though my school doesn’t have any Classics courses, I try to make due by coming as close as possible (hence all the lit. courses I’ve been taking and the newspaper), as well as reviewing AP Latin stuff every night on my own.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there are less people interested this year? Our thread is so small. lol

And wow, @Juvenis. Your stats are really strong! I would be very surprised if you didn’t get in!

@Juvenis Also, I don’t think they’re going to think that you’re not involved even if you don’t have any leadership positions. I think they’ll realize that most college clubs are led by upperclassmen, and just the fact that you’re involved with the clubs shows that you have committed to them.

Hopefully less people means less competition. I really want to get in!

@Juvenis your stats are incredible. I think you’ll get in.

@erin11 @CaptTShannan

Lol thanks. I hope so. I really hope ALL of us get in!

@CaptTShannan

It’s probably because a lot of people don’t post until decisions are near. Gives people something to talk about lol.
