Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

The lack of a Why Vandy essay is stressing me out. I know people got accepted without a specific essay but it seems like those that did were exceptional to begin with.

I feel like contacting my counselor and asking if this would be a problem, but I feel like I’m imposing

@CaptTShannan yep entering as a junior

@Juvenis I feel the same way!
But even if they told me it would’ve been better if I went with a specific one, it’s too late now and I think that’d be even more stressful…do you think you’re going to contact them?

@Juvenis

You’re extremely exceptional! I wish I had half of your good stats :slight_smile: And your essay was good and especially powerful, so don’t feel like you don’t have a solid application. Because you do. :)

@juvenis @capttshannan do you know when decisions begin to come out? Does the extended priority deadline mean that decisions will come out mid may instead of mid april?

@transfergirl818, nope! Decisions will come out around the same time: mid-April!

<a href=“A Love Letter to Transfer Applicants | The Vandy Admissions Blog | Vanderbilt University”>http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/vandybloggers/2014/02/a-love-letter-to-transfer-applicants/

Read the comments!

@CatTShannan lol thanks. You’re so sweet! :slight_smile:

@transfergirl818 yeah mid-April

Anyone know anything about transfer housing?? What’s the deal!

@gabby1994,

Transfers are generally housed in Blakemore, I’ve heard. We won’t find out for sure unless we’re accepted.

@CaptTShannan

Well I know we won’t find out for sure until then but I was wondering what the general situation is, like if all transfers are put in the same place etc!

@gabby1994

I think a lot of it’s based on where they have room left, but a friend of mine told me that last year a lot of transfer students were put into Blakemore.

Also, what are your stats?

Does anyone know what their policy is for ACT Writing for transfers. I’ve read a couple of places that they require it and I’ve read that they don’t just as many times. I was just wondering if any of you have actually talked to a counselor yourselves?

@CaptTShannan I have talked to my counselor, I know him pretty well and he recommended I send my ACT Scores.

And my stats:

I currently attend the University of British Columbia so I’m at a top 40, but US citizen from Kansas so I’m not an international student.

HS GPA: Unweighted - 3.98; Weighted - 4.79
Class rank: 5/459
ACT: 33
College GPA-3.95
I did IB and I got my diploma w/ four 5’s, one 6, and one 7.

EC’s -
I have played piano for my whole life and I teach now
I am on the First Year Council for my faculty (Science)
I am a Floor Representative for resident life
I interned at a Wildlife rehabilitation Center this past summer
I was the Chair for a community service organization at my high school
Spanish National Honors Society

I have three recommendations from Professors here.

I’ll have finished 30 credits by the end of this semester, but I already will have an additional 34 from IB.

I applied to Vanderbilt once before and got weight listed-which my counselor said is beneficial to me.

@gabby1994, I’ve sent my ACT scores, but I never took the ACT Plus Writing. But I’ve taken writing courses in college and gotten As in them. And they were honors. I asked someone who goes to Vandy, and they said that my college writing classes that I’ve taken should be enough to make up for me not taking the writing section of the ACT, but he wasn’t for sure.

Also, wow. I have no doubt that you’ll get in :)

I feel like I might just be worried for nothing.

@CaptTShannan Oh! Sorry I didn’t understand that you were asking about the writing part! I’m sure it will be fine. The writing part doesn’t even matter that much. If they have your regular ACT score, I’m sure it’s fine considering you already will have demonstrated you can write through the essays and your english classes! That will absolutely not be a deciding factor.

@gabby1994, okay, good :slight_smile:

I have another (kind of stupid) question about transfer housing. Does anyone know if they allow pets? I have a snake and I’ve fallen in love with a kitten I picked up from the side of the road recently. I’m guessing they don’t allow pets. :confused:

@theironmaiden,

That’s not a stupid question! Haha, but I don’t think they allow pets. :/

What are your stats, btw?

@CaptTShannan

Too bad xD My grandparents said they would take care of my cat while I was in college and I have a friend who agreed to take care of my snake.

Stats:
4.0 College GPA
3.8 High school GPA
Low ACT scores (I slept through part of the exam (I was ridiculously sick when I took them))

*I will have 43 credits by the end of this semester from community college
—I took a lot of CLEP tests and DSST exams in high school and a couple online college courses through a college in TN.

(I graduated high school at sixteen and went to a community college afterwards. I am 17 now.)

EC/Work experience:
I work 40 hour weeks at two jobs

I have some minor (but long term) volunteer experiences:
*I am a Red Cross volunteer at a local hospital
*I have been a youth group member since middle school and now I am a youth group leader
*I am part of a missions team and have done both local community projects as well as two service trips overseas

I would personally rank my personal statement and supplemental essay as being about average. I should have spent more time on them.

I have two excellent letters of recommendation from my professors and a positive registrar report (totaling 3 letters).

It is hard to tell where I stand as an applicant with schools like Vanderbilt. (Average? Below average?)

Hey guys! I’m looking to transfer from American University as a sophomore Elementary Education Major.

Stats:
Current College: American University in Washington D.C
College GPA: 3.7

ACT: 27 (not that great, average)
3 AP’s, 5 honors

Extracurriculars:

I really hope I get in! Their school of education is amazing, and I had a rough first year at American.

Good luck to everyone! Any idea of when we will hear back?
