Official Vassar Early Decision II Thread

Vassar’s common data set has the most comprehensive data. However, as I said, the ED statistics are not gender-specific.

[C. First-time, First-year (Freshman) Admission - Institutional Research - Vassar College](<a href=“Institutional Research – Vassar College”>Institutional Research – Vassar College)

No their not gender specific. But for REG, the male acceptance is always higher than the average, and female is usually lower, due to vassar’s 60-40 ratio. What I said were assumptions

Yeah the ED rate for males will probably be in the mid to high 40% then

Not to quibble, but the 57-43 percent f/m ratio is due to far fewer men applying. Vassar could achieve closer gender parity were they to admit a higher percentage of men than they currently do, which would also result in an increased yield. However, increasing the percentage of admitted males would require Vassar to go deeper into the applicant pool and admit students a rung or two down the academic/statistic scale. I don’t see that happening. :)

DLeggio- Where ru from? I’m an hour south of Vassar as well. The only thing I see hurting you could possibly be your GPA because I had a 30 on my ACT and I got accepted, plus I’m female and they have more of a surplus of females than males so I think that is true, however they aren’t afraid to have an unbalanced girl/guy ratio so I wouldn’t rely on that.

Yeah i’m def not relying on it haha.

I’m at Somers High School, in Westchester.

My school doesn’t offer too many AP’s, so I’m hoping my hard course rigour will make my GPA look better

@vassahh what is your gpa? Do you have a hook?

Hi guys :). I’m applying ED 2 also. I’m just finishing up my “your space” before I send it in. Did any of you guys submit one?

I sent in my science research abstract/intro.

Science research looks really good!
My gpa is a 97, class rank is in the top 5% of my class. I had an internship at CBS and “How to Make it in America.” I have a really good Senior Project. My essay was very strong as were my recommendations from a director at CBS as well as ABC. I’m the editor-in-chief of my school newspaper. I’m a Captain of my XC and Track teams and I’ll be running at Vassar next year so that may have helped. I’m also in NHS and Mu Alpha Theta: Math Honor Society. I’ve run multiple charities and I’ve also been in my high school student senate for 3 years.

The issues are interrelated. They draw fewer males (not just because Vassar used to be all-female; almost all LACs, even those with 50-50 ratios, admit males at higher rates) so they accept them at higher rates and at higher stats to alleviate what could be a more disparate gender ratio. The numbers of male and female applicants/admittances are in the Common Data Set, and I think I’ve looked at them before. It’s something like 31% of males get accepted and 19% of females for an overall rate of about 24%. ED rates for LACs tend to be high, so I think males do have a very good shot.

But you are right. They do have to balance what they want their gender-ratio to be with how strong they want the males in their student body to be.

hey, can the admitted ED1 students post their stats ? it would help us a lot
thank you

yeah, it would be great to have more stats… and are there any international applicants who got accepted EDI? or any international students applying EDII?

So there isn’t any confusion among prospective male applicants, I don’t believe male admits have higher stats. I could be wrong, but I imagine the academic statistics are more or less equal between the sexes.

What’s also interesting is last year’s yield is almost identical for males and females. The yield can be manipulated by admitting wait-listed students, but none were. Pretty impressive enrollment management.

Do we find out if we got rejected/accepted before or at the same time those applying Regular Decision?

[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Vassar+College+early+decision+notification). Couldn’t help myself. Happy Holiday’s

Thank you CrewDad, that’s a really cool way to Google! Merry Christmas everyone!

That was a mistake. I meant higher rates and lower stats.

Hey everyone!
Did you guys get your checklist login information?
I submitted my application yesterday, it says “downloaded” on the commonapp, but I havn’t got an email from Vassar yet!

You should get one, don’t worry
