***Official Villanova EA 2021 Discussion Thread***

@mynovaa, my wechat name is marianbj, thx!

@hotpot1 Are you sure that’s your ID name cauz I can’t find any related names. I just realized that I gave you my username not Wechat ID which should be jennysun2775. Let’s just try one more time. If that doesn’t work, I’ll add you on WhatsApp.

@mynovaa, Hi, I added you again in WeChat.

Deferred in Engineering
GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.2 W
ACT: 31
Amount of AP classes: 7

Does anyone know if they gave out any rejections? I really would love to go to Nova but hope that I was not given false hope due to a deferral by default. I believe they may have accepted and then deferred the rest. But at the same time, I can’t believe they would defer all of these people because in the end they have to read our applications again. I am confused honestly.

Applied to VSB
I have a passion for business and would be absolutely ecstatic to get accepted.

STATS:
1280 SAT
94 GPA
I am president of a club, in selective leadership class for all four years of high school.
I have also had two internships with well established companies. I have held three jobs. I did a summer pre-college program. All of these were business focused. My entire application screams business as that is what I want to pursue

I can only hope that they are truly holistically looking at our apps, as my hard stats are good, but definitely below average for nova.

Would like some feedback as I’m sure some can relate and a genuine congrats to everyone who got in!

good question…has anyone heard of many rejections? While I’m sure those not offered admission won’t likely post here but we all have friends…very curious.

I am getting the impression here that for this first cut, they looked strictly at standardize tests. All successful VSB seemed to have around 1,450/34. Maybe a little more scrutiny later, but I think all schools for put the test scores first for white, non-athlete, non-talent, non big donor potential candidates. They will never admit this, but its how it works.

My daughter thinks she heard of some kids getting deferred and others getting rejected in her high school. But doesn’t know for sure.

To those who are asking, I haven’t heard of anybody who got rejected. However, I heard that this year Villanova is changing their policy to include rejections (they only deferred in the past).

^^^ This seems like a very high risk strategy for the VSB to only be taking the 34+ ACT kids and deferring everybody else. Many of these kids who want top undergrad business schools are also be applying to ND, BC, Georgetown, NYU etc and will go there and not VU.

People will and do post rejections on CC boards… Nova doesn’t have much interest in rejecting at this point. As to re reading the file, they don;t have to reread the file, they can just mark them “reject unless a material change comes in” IE if you send in that you won a national science contest, or your family makes a big donation, or you mount a campaign, etc. They probably have another pile labeled “If our RA pool is not as strong this year then convert to a yes barring a material problem.”

Nova is not alone in making a huge majority of deferrals into soft rejections.

If you are deferred do you have a chance to convert it to a yes? By all means you have a chance. It is even higher than the “Dumb and Dumber so you are saying that I have a chance?”

Don’t forget that the RA pool includes the huge number of applicants either rejected or deferred from super competitive schools.

Nova sent out 4800 waitlist letters and took 50. So yes a waitlist still technically is not a no. 50 of the 4800 do get offers.

Does anybody know the math on deferrals?

I don’t know the math on deferrals but my daughter’s high school sees yeses from the Nova deferrals, whereas there are some schools they rarely see yeses once a student has been deferred. I know at least three current Nova students from her school that were deferred that got in regular. I think they are true to what they claim on their website…they are very picky for EA. I think if you have stats in their range and were deferred, you have a very decent chance. Stay in touch and definitely update them as you continue to add accomplishments.

D accepted to VSB earlier this week. Midwest student.

Anyone know how many kids were kids were admitted to VSB in the EA pool ?

If you received any merit scholarships, would they have been in the acceptance letter?

No, merit scholarships are not decided until later.

An honors invitation apparently comes separately a bit later in the regular mail.

Accepted to CLAS! (Mathematics and Statistics)
35 superscored ACT
4.5 GPA
Lots of clubs and lots of leadership positions in those clubs
Recs and essays were pretty good I think
I am so happy right now! Villanova was one of my top 2 schools and I am so ecstatic to have gotten in, especially with the upped competition this year… to those deferred, I wish you good luck in the RD process!
(Also, for someone who only got the “official” welcome packet yesterday, what is the range of when an honors program offer could hopefully occur?)
Thank you! Go Nova!

@jessssssie02 I got the villanova acceptance packet on Friday, and then the honors on Saturday, but I do live close to Villanova. I would say today or tomorrow.

I don’t think the university is evaluating on a straight stats basis. They certainly haven’t indicated that this is their sole criteria. Reading the tea leaves is difficult this year. Villanova is dealing with a record number of apps, over 11,000 EA and likely in the neighborhood of 20,000 total. A good problem to have? Sure. But the goalposts are moving.

Let’s say they accept 40 percent of 20,000. I’m using round numbers, but not out of the ballpark. That’s 8,000. Maybe yield jumps a smidge to 25 percent (2,000). That’s about 400 too many. So the number of deferrals/rejections likely spikes.

Good luck to all in RD. The university is making tremendous strides.

Anyone hear about honors? I’m just wondering how many get offered…
