***Official Villanova EA 2021 Discussion Thread***

Does Villanova offer any merit scholarships besides the Presidential and the Villanova? I do not have any hooks. Do they give any non need based grants? Any help would be appreciated, I am incredibly interested in Villanova but would not be able to go if I had to pay the sticker price.

@keurig83 they do but its very little. my brother last year was an amazing applicant, didn’t get the presidential scholorship and got about 14,000 a year

Hey! Would anyone recommend switching from VSB to CLAS for a better chance of getting accepted? I was deferred from EA to the RD pool and from what it looks like, getting into VSB would be extremely hard. I intend on being a finance major and I want to go into investment banking after my undergrad… But you can major in Economics in the CLAS and economics is a suitable major for something like investment banking…

I’m not sure you can switch your app at this point??

@thebellcurve it might not be too late. You can call and ask, but I would ask anonymously. Once you get that info, then you can decide.

If you want to private message me your stats, I can give you my opinion. I have two children that fared very well in the Catholic business school admissions process so I have a clue.

I can tell you that the EA stats are probably higher than the RD stats will be just because Villanova is admittedly much more difficult to get in to EA. But then again, this is an interesting year for Nova given the Businessweek ranking of #1 and the NCAA championship last year.

Good luck.

Anybody else go to Early Action Candidates Day? It was my first admitted students day weekend, and I loved it. My top choices atm are probably BC and Villanova, and BC was looking better for being close to Boston, and admittedly the more prestigious school. However, this event made that decision a lot harder. My biggest takeaways from the event were meeting other prospective students and some of the info sessions. Most people were so nice and willing to talk. One of the info sessions was about preparing us for careers. I got in for VSB, and was very impressed with everything they do starting freshman year to prepare us for “the real world.” Will definitely have to visit BC’s accepted students day now. I’d highly recommend this for any other prospective students to go if there are anymore events after RD decisions are released.

HSStudent938, we attended both the BC and Villanova Early Acceptance days with my daughter. Not that it should be the basis of any decision, but I can tell you that we found the Villanova event to be significantly more personal, enthusiastic, and just overall much better than BC. I don’t think you can go wrong with either school, so good luck in your decision.

@Krj957 That’s disappointing to hear, but I will still have to give BC one last visit before making a decision. Is BC or Villanova one your daughter’s top choices? I find them both to be so similar that it will be hard to choose. Both are solid for business, close to but not in a major city, beautiful campuses, religious affiliations, similar demographics and similar academic reputations. BC might win by a bit for business, Boston vs Philly, and most likely having the better financial aid package. Received honors at Villanova, but not at BC. Slightly disappointed by no honors at BC, but they only take top 3% of CSOM and it is already the most competitive school. Got four years housing, so I must’ve been up there, but I guess not close enough. I’m leaning towards BC at the moment, but both would be great options. Good luck to your daughter in her decision as well!

My daughter is a sophomore at BC in CSOM and her head is spinning from all of the recruitment opportunities. She’s done some job shadows and has had a mentorship with a big firm. My other daughter who is the current HS senior would have gone to BC if she hadn’t gotten in to Georgetown…although she just visited her sister at BC and loved it so much, she’s feeling tempted to go there…so we still aren’t sure. She also got in to CSOM and honestly, we aren’t sure if Georgetown business is really that much stronger than BC’s, if at all. (By the way, you might be able to get into BC honors after you matriculate…I thought I read that somewhere, but I don’t think you will be at a loss without it.)

BC also has football…they aren’t a Penn State, but they are in the ACC and play some great teams and tailgates are a lot of fun. Really fun. Made a bowl this year (as many schools do). And I personally think the city of Boston has more to offer college students and the T literally stops at BC (the B line up Commonwealth Ave. last stop is called “Boston College”. And riding that line into the city is awesome…you pass BU, Fenway, and MIT and Harvard just on the other side of the river. And Northeastern is right there also. It’s really an incredible area. Such a young and vibrant city.

With that said, you cannot go wrong with Villanova either, especially their B school. I’m just giving you my opinion. My girls both would have chosen BC (one did and the other is not about to give up her acceptance yet!).

As for people, I do think they are similar, but from what I hear from my current BC student whose best friend is at Villanova, I think she gets the feeling that BC has a better community feel to it and is a little less snobby. But this is just one person’s opinion. And BC is Jesuit and the Jesuit education really promotes the strong sense of community, looking out for each other, community service, educating the whole person, etc.

Any idea if folks with deferred apps will be notified of final decisions before publicized dates (late March…)?

Pretty sure that everyone will be informed on the same date in late march. Last year was the 22nd.

You were spot on with your estimation! @Middleman68
