Son was Deferred, Civil Engineering

33 ACT
3.8 GPA in rigorous curr. w/a lot of APs, Honors
Strong athletic and non-athletic ECs

Definitely more than a little surprised given a couple other EA acceptances he has received. Wasn’t at the top of his list but he liked it when we visitied and he was definitely was planning to give it strong consideration after receiving RD decisions. Assuming he still has a good shot through RD but guessing he may be significantly less likely to consider then.

I had seen that Villanova was one of the few (only) schools with a lower EA acceptance rate than RD acceptance rate in 2011. Not sure I understand how that benefits the school or the potential students. So be it :)

Congrats to all those who received acceptances. Hope it is a great fit!

Daughter deferred, prospective English major
SAT: 800 CR, 770 WR, 620 M
Strong ECs supporting her intended major
VU was one of her top 2 choices
She’s very disappointed. At least 4 of her peers got in with no intention of attending, as VU was their safety and they got accepted at top 20 schools, including some Early Decision. D. will now look deeper into other schools on her list.
Congratulations to all accepted!

Do they just defer everyone? No rejections?

Swimmie - yes, no rejections. And we were told they give each application a completely fresh look in the RD round.

In my opinion her essays were strong

I applied regular decision because I applied to Yale single choice early action. I was deferred from Yale and disappointed that I’d have to wait until March to hear back, but I got a letter today saying despite my regular decision application, they accepted me under the early action pool!
1 & super excited!!!

Flowers1: Congrats? I must say I am a bit surprised you were accepted EA considering your mediocre SAT scores. Many applicants were deferred with MUCH stronger test grades.

Well, my apologies for proving that test scores aren’t always a determining factor when choosing students for a college. I did have an interview with the director of admissions and came strongly recommended. A student shouldn’t feel as if they aren’t up to par with a school because they do not test well. With that being said, I will be attending Villanova, along with my mediocre scores.

Congrats flowers1. Anyone who challenges your acceptance based on your scores is just bitter. SATs are a minor fraction of an application and a truly poor indicator of an individual. Depending on how other decisions go for me, could be seeing you next year at Nova!
