Official Visits - swimming recruiting advice

@mom2swimmer i’m not familiar with swimming recruiting, but this has got to be for rising juniors, right? Seniors have to get applications in by November for early decisions.

There are no OVs happening now in D1 due to NCAA’s dead period proclamation, which goes thru Aug 31 as of right now. Many believe the DI dead period will be extended thru the end of the year, but that’s just speculation. If the dead period continues to be extended, recruiting is going to run later than normal this year. Because many programs have not completed recruiting for class of 2021, this is impacting rising seniors as well.

Typically many recruits at all levels do not apply ED. We do usually see many ED apps for recruited athletes among NESCACs, Ivies, and certain other schools/conferences, but again, the process is not normal right now. For example, all NESCACs have paused certain recruiting activities as well (no in person recruiting on or off campus), which impacts rising seniors too.

@Mwfan1921 yikes! Curious to see how many schools or conferences will run their recruiting in this manner this cycle.

So far, this is not what my son has experienced (schools are still asking for the early decision commitment in exchange for the admissions slot).

D3 doesn’t have a dead period, unless you’re talking NESCAC who has temporarily suspended in-person recruiting and campus visits. But coaches from other D3 conferences are meeting with recruits in person.

Hi- attempting to revive this post, since the OP is now going into senior year. My son is in the same boat and wondering what official visits will be like this fall. Has anyone scheduled any yet? Do you think they will do overnight or just day visits? Do they typically attend a class? Participate in a practice?

We have offers for 2 official visits so far for the fall, but haven’t actually scheduled anything yet.
