Official Visits

When do division 1 schools in the Ivy League offer official visits for men’s swimming and has this been pushed back because of covid?

Thanks for any guidance.

It depends on when the NCAA lifts the dead period, which right now goes through July 31. Hopefully starting Aug 1 teams will be able to offer official visits again.

I don’t know if many of them will be offering overnights this year though, that is probably not going to be copacetic on many, maybe most, campuses for quite a while.

It is certainly appropriate for your student to ask coaches what their plans are for the fall (and official visits) as well.

Mwfan1921 - Thank you! I have a rising junior who just started getting calls yesterday. Do Ivies bring juniors on campus for officials in August? I’ve heard mixed messages about this.

I can’t speak to any Ivy swimming coaches in particular, but yes there can be official visits in junior year. I expect this recruiting year is going to be different than things have been though…some coaches are going to be behind with their senior recruits so will need to focus there first.

Your student should begin building relationships with coaches and go from there. I would not ask about an OV early in the relationship as a rising junior. If things progress it should become more clear to your student where the coach is with regard to timing for the junior class.

Good luck.

If your child doesn’t have scores (guessing unlikely) make a plan to get ACT and/or SAT done in the Fall or latest winter. Along with strong athletic results, your child’s scores will assist with keeping the conversation going.

Makes sense. Thank you!
