Official Waiting Room [2010]

How did you find out that you’ve been rejected?? or is it just your feelings?

thanks for clarifying ocgirl, i dont want to give incorrect info!

also to those counting down, dont expect it at 7:00 on the dot!

if you are accepted, join the facebook group for admitted students (there’s a different one for students that are fully committed to attending: ED and soon, people who send in their deposit)
the current hopkins students that join the group are honestly the best, their info is great and dont feel shy about asking questions!

Umm, I have a feeling I am. I’ve been having these pschedelic dreams of sort that tells me whether or not I get accepted to certain schools (proved to be true for Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, Chicago, etc) but I haven’t had a dream about JHU or Cornell yet. Gonna load up on some sleep and see if I can find out the future again!

I’m going to go out on a limb here an guess a 20% acceptance rate for ED. ~3549 students of 17200. I’ll probably wrong but that’s my estimate XD.

@Anonymity: From some totally unsubstantiated rumor I heard it’s 19% this year…at 18350 applicants, thats 3486 acceptances.

Good luck everyone! 31 minutes left!

I’m guessing they said 19% RD admit rate lol. Because 3486-494= 2792 RD acceptances. Almost a 1000 fewer than last year. I don’t think that’s right but we’ll find out soon enough. And the 17200 was RD applicants. 18349 includes ED.

AD’s latest update:

6:15 p.m. — So with less than an hour left before the release of the e-mail notifications I want to post a few reminders and also a piece of advice. Reminders first:

E-mails will start going out AROUND 7:00 p.m. EDT. This does not mean you will get your e-mail exactly at 7:00 p.m. It can take up to 3 hours for all the e-mails to be sent.

We DO NOT have an online system where you log-in to get your decision.

DO NOT share your decision e-mail with others nor post the message on any public form or Web site. The e-mails contain personalized information.

If you do not receive an e-mail tonight, please refer to the suggestions I provided in my previous blog post. Scroll down to the picture of two people in a large mail bin and you will see my comments.

BME decisions will be sent as a separate e-mail tonight. Only students who selected BME as their first choice major on the JHU supplement will receive a BME decision e-mail.

If you applied for financial aid, you will see in your ISIS account the following message about financial aid awards:

Financial aid award letters and supporting information were included in the admissions packets that have been mailed. Many of your questions about financial aid will be answered by these materials. To help us help you, please read the materials before talking with one of our advisors. Thank you.
Once again, all information about how the release of decision is explained in my March 25 blog post.

Now some advice …
I wish each and everyone of you the best as you receive your decisions tonight. My strong suggestion is that after you read your decision, log-off of your computer and go spend some time with your family. No matter what the decision is!!!

This is a major moment in your young life, and family is who you should share your initial thoughts and emotions with. Your family has been there since the first moment of your life, and they will be there FOREVER. Your family is not some online community. Afterwards you can log-on and share with others. Let the news sink in first. React in the real world before entering the cyber world. OK, that is just my two cents … but I do hope you all heed it.

That’s all for now. I’ll probably update once of twice more tonight. Best wishes to all of you and it has been a wonderful ride this year.

6: 29 p.m. — Oops, forgot one thing. Tomorrow I will be posting three entries to the blog – a Post for Admits, a Post for Wait-Listed Students, and a Post for the Denied. Do check back tomorrow and read through the entries as I hope they will assist all of you.

an0nmity - hopkins overenrolled last year and is making sure it’s not the case this year

I’m wondering how soon the financial stuff will be visible.

cantsaywho,
this seems crazy to me. You’ll find out soon but I think you’d better not believe your feelings. I never dreamed a dream about any school you know, but I got accepted into several already. :D

Last year’s yield was around 35%. If they use the same yield model, 3500 admitted (19%) is about right, which will result in a class of about 1200.

^ Haha I only have dreams about getting accepted to schools I didn’t even apply to!

( :

professor, apparently hopkins uses a secret internal formula made by a math professor to assess their yield, which varies from year to year. but 3500/18500 is crazy!

Gahhh time needs to go fasterrrr

You can’t include ED in the RD yield because those students automatically go to Hopkins. Another CC member and I analyzed this a while back and here’s what we came up with: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1064015898-post8.html</a> About 3300 RD admits from 17400. I went a little higher with my number. But again, we’ll see soon anough. So a total of ~3300 + 494 ED= ~ 3800 Total from 18350. That’s about 350 few acceptances than last year + an increase in applicants.

19%. Ouch.

19%?!?!
:(

Hahaha. I’m going to go to sleep now and when I wake up, the decision will be there!
