"Okay so I understand Wash U likes to waitlist…but waitlisting the MAJORITY of applicants? That doesn’t even make sense.

Based on this thread, these are the stats:
10 - Accepted
32 - Waitlisted
5 - Rejected

CC isn’t a perfect sampling of students…but it’s a pretty good one. I’d (almost) rather just have a rejection letter than all these waitlists."

How many rejected people would actually bother to post their decision results online? Waitlisted ppl do that because maybe they wanna show others that they’re still smart enough to get waitlisted…

freakintexan - They won’t let you in if they find out you don’t know to too and two.

I’m almost positive that CC isn’t an english paper.

And if you want to talk to me about the correct usage of “to, too, and two” then you should check and know when to use commas.

How many rejected people would actually bother to post their decision results online? Waitlisted ppl do that because maybe they wanna show others that they’re still smart enough to get waitlisted…

That is what i was thinking. Not everyone wants to share that they were rejected.

Well, at my daughter’s school, during the last three years, about 30% of WUSTL applicants were accepted, about 50% were waitlisted, and only 12% were rejected (the rest were deferred ED and it is unclear what happened to them or withdrew their applications). I know this is only a small sample of applicants, and may not be representative, but at most other comparable schools the waitlisted percentage was around 15-25%.

My daughter got waitlisted at Wash U yesterday - it’s a target school for her and we’re wondering about the 34% “attend” state in the Fiske Guide. It’s not terribly high so we’re hoping she is accepted. However, how do you play the timing on this – don’t you need to let schools know at the same time? In other words, are they counting on students letting them know if they will attend earlier than the deadline, so that waitlisted kids can be told if they are in or not? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks! And good luck to everyone!

vmbuxton,
I have not been waitlisted though I have had friends who were waitlisted last year. The timing is like this: all schools have a universal May 1st reply deadline. Schools do not go to the waitlist before getting those responses on May 1st. After that, they see if they need more people inthis in this program and who shows SIGNIFICANT interest and may give them an offer.
For those waitlisted, you NEED to send in a deposit to another school by May 1st. If you still want to attend Wash U you can accept a spot on the waitlist. Then during the summer you may have a chance to still get accepted (albeit very low). If not, you continue your plans with the other school

“22% is all accepted and includes ED.”

Also it might be worth mentioning that the ED rate is higher which means the RD rate is lower …

@apptimex2, your D’s school has a sufficiently large cohort to make your percentages meaningful(50+?)? Wow, my school of 3K may have one student enroll at WashU every other year …

@vmbuxton, these rates are factored into the models used when determining the number of accepted students, … many times they hit it on the nose, recently some institutions (because of economic conditions?) have had TOO many accept … IOW, the waitlist is always a longshot …
