My daughter....Virginia public school. Also waitlisted at William & Mary. Accepted Sarah Lawrence College and a fantastic financial aid package so guess heading north.

My D: 2 years at VA public school, 2 years at private. Waitlisted at U Richmond, accepted at Dickinson and Rhodes.

Were you waitlisted Early Decision? How did you hear otherwise? I thought they wern’t mailing the letters until the end of this week?

Apparently they were mailed yesterday and some people in VA received them today…

Don’t make too many quick decisions. Some of the kids who got into Richmond or William & Mary may turn them down for other opportunities. And that would open spots to your teen.

I agree with momreads. My roommate for next year AND one of my best friends here at UR both were waitlisted and then accepted later, so it certainly can’t be a rare occurence. If your son/daughter was accepted to another school that they like better anyway, then being waitlisted at UR doesn’t even matter. If not, don’t lose hope just yet.

Wait-listed.
3.67 GPA with 5 AP classes and all honors except math classes
2100 SAT-- 730 CR, 650 M, 720 W
2080 SAT II
great essays, good recs, okay extra-currics, bad community service
I wrote the optional essay, my parents wrote a rec, and I visited the school from 8 hours away.

It’s okay, I will go to Bucknell or to business school at Villanova. Or maybe Colgate/Emory/Georgetown if I’m lucky I’m going to reject my place on the wait list. Too bad, because up until a few months ago I planned to apply ED 2 to Richmond.

Good luck all!

You can add me to that list
Wait-listed with a 4.12 weighted GPA, 3.6 UW, all honors classes except 1 history class, 5 APs
1930 SAT
32 ACT
great essay, amazing teacher recs, pretty diverse extra-curriculars and plenty of community service

I’m so surprised, I wasn’t expecting to get wait-listed at all. I’ve already gotten into Boston College EA so I think I might just accept there for now, but I’m definitely holding out for Richmond. It’s been my number one since last summer and I can’t picture myself going anywhere else. I’m so disappointed, but I’m not giving up hope.

I’m still confused about how the whole wait-list thing works. Should I accept my admission at BC but tell them there is a chance I might not be going? I know I have to respond somewhere since if I don’t get off the waitlist then I wouldn’t have anywhere to go next year. But can I accept if I know for sure I won’t be going if I get into UR?

Yes, ready, you can accept and place a deposit at one school by May 1 and still hold onto your WL place at Richmond. If you get off the WL and decide to matriclate at Richmond, you would likely lose your deposit at the May 1 college.

I was waitlisted as well…but I think i’m going to stay on it just in case.

Waitlisted.
2170 SAT scores, 3.8 GPA, strong essay, good recommendations.

Unfortunately I also got waitlisted to UR like most of you here. UR Rep: I was wondering how many people usually get accepted out of the waitlisted pool and how big is the waitlist usually? And in your opinion do you think that the economy will have a negative impact on students attending top tier private schools such as UR this year? Hopefully so because ,fortunately, I dont need financial aid to go to UR.

Richmond is ridiculous, who are they accepting its not even a good school. I cant believe i got wait listed, it was supposed to be an ultra safety. Some of the other kids who put their scores and stuff up i cant believe either, Richmond doesnt know what theyre doing.

fgg, for an “ultra safety” you sure are bitter…don’t you know they take a HOLISTIC view of each kid? It is not just the SAT scores, but the whole picture. Time to move on!

Hello all–

These are all legitimate questions. This year we had almost 7900 applications and are looking for a first year class of about 800. Most of the 7900 students in the pool were good students and there were far more excellent students than we could accommodate. We know that there are many students with wonderful records on our WL that, should we have space, we’d be delighted to enroll. I know it hurts to be WL’d and there is little I can do to take that hurt away.

The thing that we value most highly when we make admission decisions is difficulty of curriculum, second would be grades and third would be testing. That said, those with high test scores have not always taken a curriculum in high school that would have been assessed to be particularly difficult and others took tough courses but had more modest day-to-day achievement. It is a balancing act between grades and rigor.

There are hundreds of people on the WL but from the outset, quite a few will tell us “no thank you” to the WL so that will reduce the number of folks out there “in waiting”. In the last five years, we’ve admitted between 50-130 students from the wait list, but each year is different and it is difficult to predict what will happen this year.

The economy is certainly a wild card for you and for us. It is too early in the month to say what it will mean for changes in student/family choice. I wish I had a crystal ball, just like I know you wish you had one.

Thanks to those of you who are going to tough it out and wait with us–we really do appreciate your interest (and it is a good idea to let us know of your interest through real - as opposed to confidential - channels). For those who are not going to wait it out with us, we understand that you have attractive offers elsewhere and have nothing but the best wishes for you at those places. We know that you just want to make this decision and be done with it and if that is the case for you, truly, we wish you well.

^^URadmissions: have you released ED stats yet or do prospective students need to wait until they are recorded by college board? just curious…

Waitlisted
B+ average in a difficult private school in CT who has had several admits to URichmond in the past few years. 30 on ACT several times, varsity sports, ECs include community service such as alter serving and teaching bible camp to prescholars one week in the summer for last 3 years. I did not get to visit Richmond and wonder if this hurt me in the decision making process, someone from my class was admitted ED who has a higher GPA and lower test scores. I will remain on the wait list and hope for the best knowing that the decisions being made happen for a reason and if it’s meant to be then it will be. Good luck to all on the wait list.

May 1 - many schools are moving on heir waitlist. Anyword for anyone at Richmond?
