Acceptance, I suppose.

No spectacular ECs

Yes

Accepted at UW-Madison

Yes, EFC is around $9000

I thought the most likely scenario was that I would get waitlisted.

I wrote all of my UChicago essays at the last minute, so they were not as good as they could have been. I know they could have been exceptional.

Yes, but I will withdraw if I get into schools I would rather go to.

Nada. I will be getting 13 more decisions over the next 2 weeks though!

I applied for aid. My twin brother got about $10,000 of FA from Cornell (he applied ED), so I will probably get a similar amount of aid wherever I end up.

Acceptance…

I wrote last-minute essays and didn’t really think much of it.

Yes

Full tuition scholarship to Vanderbilt

Yes. EFC= 0.

@I V:
I posted the 35 not as a weakness, but as something I thought would make up for the 2250.

Were you expecting a rejection or an acceptance?
Was HOPING for acceptance.

Give a reason why you think you were waitlisted?
SAT scores. Everybody who got accepted from the schools in my area were 2300+

Planning to stay “officially” on the waitlist?
Yes. When will we hear back?

Which other colleges have you been already accepted to/ got likely?
Accepted to UCLA and universities in the UK and HK

Applied for FA? If yes, what’s your EFC?
Yes. What’s EFC??

EFC = Expected Family Contribution / year

Last year, some waitlisted students heard back on 13th April.

People, if you are international and applied for aid, you should probably put that information too because they are need-sensitive in that case.

@IMClearAdmitCase

Where did you get that information from? Why would we hear back so early when the people who are accepted won’t have to reply until May 1st?

Were you expecting a rejection or an acceptance?
Was not sure.

Give a reason why you think you were waitlisted?
Transcript and essays (which were good, but fairly last minute).

Planning to stay “officially” on the waitlist?
Yes. When will we hear back?

Which other colleges have you been already accepted to/ got likely?
Rejected: Penn CAS ED, University of Oxford, London School of Economics (LSE)
Accepted: UConn Storrs (Honours), University of St. Andrews, University College London (UCL)

Applied for FA? If yes, what’s your EFC?
No.

nadalle: Post #12: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/921458-official-chicago-waitlist-acceptance-thread.html

May 1 is the deadline. Most of the people reply much earlier.

I see. Thank you. =)

Anything we can do to improve our chances on the waitlist?

The material on students review website would suggest that undergraduates at Chicago are treated as second-class citizens, the school name is virtually unknown (other than to some select grad schools), grade deflation is crushing, and social opportunities are few. For those on the waitlist, you might be thankful you weren’t accepted and tempted to actually go!

^ That’s BS…

placido240 nice sportsmanship…

It may be B.S. and poor sportsmanship, but it sure made me feel a little better. Haha.

Would it be alright to send in another teacher rec?

What waitlist form was i supposed to fill out? The only thing I saw was checking whether I wanted to be on the waitlist or not?

How do I send more things through my UChicago Account?

UChicago’s admissions blog stated back in 2009:
"Updates on awards and other recent recognitions are welcome, but additional letters of recommendation aren’t necessary. What will be most important will be what you tell us about your desire to remain on the waiting list, and, of course, that your grades this spring are strong. "

The waitlist form was just what you already filled out.

And presumably you could mail the school additional materials or email it to the admissions office.

I read the part that recommendations weren’t necessary, but there seems to be a discrepancy between what a college has on their website and what will actually help me. I know colleges that say they don’t want certain material, but if called, they will say to send it in. So email them?

So nothing negative about choosing to remain on the WL earlier, right? Maybe it’ll show interest.

I wanted to hear from other schools before making my decision, but then I thought I might as well choose to remain on the list asap.
