I, however, am grateful, and yes i have agreed to be on the waitlist.

did the people who accepted to be on the waitlist write anything in the additional info section?

also, does it matter when you agree to be on the waitlist???

Does anyone have any clue as to how many people were waitlisted? Is it like in the 1k-3k range or a lot more? This was asked earlier by someone else but I didn’t see a response to it.

Hey, for all you wait listed people, are you Asian? Cuz I think UCLA is just being racist since there are so many outstanding students here. I’m Asian and I got waitlisted

Enajmu, I’ll try to cut you some slack, since you’re apparently a bit frustrated. But it’s hard to conclude that an admissions office comprised of hundreds of readers reviewing 72K applications can be “racist”, or that you can draw conclusions here from either your experience or the small smattering of examples posted here. The UC’s’ admissions process has been studied extensively and is perhaps the most transparent process in the country, and it would seemingly refute your speculation.

As to your own situation, you have admitted elsewhere that your grades (3.5 overall, and 3.79 after freshman year) and SAT’s (650 in reading and 660 in math) are far from the best and that your EC’s - a big issue with UCLA as elsewhere – are very weak. Many who are not Asian and who have scores and credentials that kick yours out of the lot have been waitlisted.

Sorry that you’re disappointed, but playing the ‘racist’ card so cheaply demeans the concept and makes it harder to have people take racism seriously where it does apply and is more important – say in Samford, Florida. And it’s an insult to those who applied themselves and earned admission.

I’m assuming and hoping that you’ve applied to other UC’s or good schools (you’ve mentioned UOP) and have applied. As far where you want to go, you mentioned elsewhere that you hoped to get into UOP’s pre-dental program. One of my closest friends went to Fresno State and made it from there to UOP Dental School. If that’s your goal, it doesn’t require UCLA.

Good luck.

Does anyone know how UCLA’s waitlist process will work? Do they have the waitlist applicants ranked and take in the top X amount to fill in the rest of the freshman class-if any-or do they reexamine our application holistically and decide from there???

enajmu: I am Asian (Chinese, too), and I got in. My stats definitely didn’t determine my admissions, my passion for the community did, and I showed that through my application. Being Asian has nothing to do with it.

MatthewR: I have no clue, since this is the first year that UCLA has done a waitlist. Just wish for the best.

Waitlisted…
35 on the ACT, 4.42 weighted GPA.

I’m a little surprised - not so much for me, but it seems like a lot of people waitlisted have really high stats (2300+ SAT, 4.5+ GPA, etc.). I think we should all just take it in stride. College admissions have always been kind of random, and with the huge increase in applicants this year, the randomness can only increase.

I don’t think being Asian is a factor as such…What is a factor is your personal background, your school. How you have done in context of your school and community So whether fair or not, if you are from a top API school with no apparent adversity, you will be held to higher standards.

And the personal statement is very very important.

Waitlisted, white girl here.

SAT: 2300
SATII: Math 800, Bio 780
4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.2ish weighted GPA
from bay area top API school

wait…before people start panicking, it would be good to know if you guys (with high stats and wait listed)…did you apply to an impacted major. Heard Engineering and Political science are one of the more popular majors.

Asian male, wait-listed

SAT: 2180
SAT II: Math II: 660; History: 700
UC GPA: 3.75; Weighted: 4.0-4.1? (don’t feel like calculating again…)
Mediocre EC
Mediocre Essays

All things considered, I’m pretty surprised I even got wait-listed; I was expecting a rejection. On a related note, anybody have any clue what they’ll put for their wait-list “essay”? Does UCLA really want to read thousands of essays that are basically: “I really would like to go to UCLA because…”?

it seems like theres a wide range of wait listed people!

I am definitely on the bottom half
my GPA is 4.2 and SATs 1940 and my essays aren’t too good either hahaha

@shoyuthemoney

We have the same exact stats! (35 ACT, 4.42 WGPA)

@JP1123 they’re not asking for an essay. They’re asking updates to school work such as grades and stuff.

Wow, I’m pretty sure I have the lowest SAT/ACT score out of all you guys and I got waitlisted.
Well, we’ll see what happens and good luck to you all!

Waitlisted. Urgh.

GPA: 3.9 (My school doesn’t weight)
SAT: 2020
SAT 2: US History 680, World History 700, Literature 750
Essays: My mom liked them? (j/k, they were good, I think…Hell if I know)
EC: Over 500 hours of community service, roles in 4 clubs, currently interning.
Major: Anthropology.

If I did the math correctly with the stats they gave, the acceptance rate is around 8% or something this year? That is scary how selective UCLA is this year.

My dream school is UCB, so the fact I wasn’t accepted into UCLA is not a good sign. Not that I had very high hopes anyway. Ah well.

I’ve been waitlisted from 2 other schools (Reed and Oberlin), and I agree with what others have said, I’d rather just be rejected outright!

Anyway, don’t be depressed everyone! It’s all good, whatever happens. Many people would kill for you waitlist spots!

Emjanu, I can understand why you think that but the fact is is that public schools in CA must be race-blind because of Regents of the University of California v Bakke supreme court case. UCLA has a primarily Asian student body, so since so many people of Asian descent apply it makes sense many on the waitlist would also be Asian.
Private schools are a different matter though, they often have a quota on Asian students, and I agree this isn’t fair. But the UC system doesn’t do this.

Socalpilot, we can be CAL rejection buddies!
