What is the additional information asking for?

Is it asking for another essay? Would it be bad if I wrote one?

ucla admissions this year suck, they had too many applicants…a girl at my school got into harvard and yale, rejected by ucla. I got waitlisted, but with a 4.25 and a 34 on the ACT, i think i had the stats, as did nearly everyone on this thread. Hopefully we all can get in! i dont think writing an essay would be a good idea.

anyone leaving the additional info area blank?

@lobcity - I’m just restating the clarifications I had originally put in my application and possibly a short paragraph emphasizing my desire to attend UCLA. Hopefully, we’ll get in!

My D is waitlisted and today got her financial aid award from UCLA. That is weird, right?
When she logs in, it stills says she is waitlisted. Why would they bother to figure out her financial aid award if she is not accepted? Did anyone else on the waitlist get this email?

I’m probably going to decline my admission in two or three weeks unless a miracle lands me a 34,000 scholarships. Hope one of you guys get my spot.

@chrissyblu no that’s not weird, what you have is an estimated value of what your daughter might receive if she gets accepted. I got waitlisted as well, and I received my financial aid award.

Anyone get this email?
[UCLA sends mistaken congrats to 894 applicants and then apologizes - latimes.com](<a href=“Archive blogs”>Archive blogs)

To be honest, I’m not a genius.
My highest SAT score was 1590
My ACT score was 23
unweighted GPA 3.9
I’m only involved in Art Club and CSF.

And I’m on the waitlist.

I don’t understand why I would be waitlisted seeing as everyone’s scores are on a completely different level than mine.

So maybe it’s not about having the highest SAT score or grades. Maybe the waitlist is just a cushion so UCLA can fill in the blanks to meet their demographics when they find that those who they admitted aren’t enough.

So i guess that means 894 kids were waitlisted

It’s not that UCLA is hard to get in compared to other schools with similar standings, but it just doesn’t have enough space to accommodate all the qualified applicants. UCLA receives the most applicants in the country; it’s more about luck after you’ve reached a certain “stats” threshold.

if UCLA accepted 15000 applicants and only needs to fill up 5000 seats. does that mean 10000 kids have to reject their acceptance just for a waitlist kid to have a chance…

^No…the number of students accepted is based on the estimate for this year’s yield. Since the school doesn’t know exactly how many students will enroll, the waitlist is used to compensate for differences in expected and actual yield. So if fewer students enroll than expected, the school will take students off the waitlist. Schools also use the waitlist to fill certain majors (for instance, maybe they need more history majors that year).

Hey fellow waitlisted.
Did any of you apply for alumni scholarship? The alumni association didn’t know how to deal with waitlisted folks so they excluded us.
If some of us get accepted we should ask the alumni association what can be done. Maybe review apps and interview for sophomore year? It seems unfair that we would be completely out of luck for 4 years just because we got accepted a month or so later than others.

Actually it means there are more than 894 applicants waitlisted. I think the 894 are waitlisted & applied for financial aid. There are still those of us (me included) who are waitlisted but never applied for financial aid. I never received the erroneous “acceptance” email and apology email that was mentioned in the article. So, I think we’re talking 900+ waitlisted. Not holding my breath :(

The washington post article stated:
“according to The Daily Bruin student newspaper, and there are currently 2,900 applicants on the waitlist.”

[UCLA accidentally accepts 894 waitlisters - Campus Overload - The Washington Post](http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/campus-overload/post/ucla-accidentally-accepts-894-waitlisters/2012/04/11/gIQACtTeAT_blog.html)

I think thenewgurl is right…

So now that the deadline tippy in to the waitlist is over how mAny people opted in? Supposedly 2900 were given WL option.

So how many opted in to waitlist??

Anybody getting nervous?

YES!
Does anybody know when they might notify us if they take us off waitlist?
Has anyone called admissions? I sure hope they let us know either way by mid to late May.
