This thread is for all those cool people who already realize they want to seek transfer to Wash U either by jan 09 or traditionally in the fall 09. Im sure we are all brimming with information we want to share, so lets describe why we want to transfer and whats wrong with our current school (providing a name of the institution is completely optional).

How about I go first. I am going to be a sophomore next year at grinnell. I applied for transfer last year and got in, but didnt get enough aid since I applied quite late.

(Please note that admission at Wash U is into one of the schools like A & S, Engg, Business etc so plz mention that too)

Possible reasons are size of current school, weather, academics, social atmosphere etc

I'm from a typical run-of-the-mill state university in Texas. I've spent 1 semester here in total (entered in spring instead of fall) and have since led an absolutely miserable college life. My college classes are for some reason much much easier than my high school counterparts (even in traditionally rigorous college courses like chem and bio), and not only that, they are fairly large and impersonal. I made like...what... less than 3 friends in a semester from my classes. (Trust me, I'm not some sociopath incapable of making friends either.)

Hopefully, WashU will offer me a more challenging environment in a more socially compact atmosphere. I'm applying for Fall '09, Arts & Sciences, as a Jewish, Islamic, and Near Eastern Studies major with a pre-med track.

@ escapist, I realize what you are saying. Thankfully, the largest class ive been so far has been 32 for my Calc II, and all others have been usually 20. My firends at public unis have been in classes with 2-300 and i can well imagine wht they are going thru. Ur major sounds very exciting, and i am intrigued by such a choice being muslim myself. Anyway, Im glad to have found you and i look forward to conversing on CC

@ chlormel, it may surprise you that I am international myself. Yes they do offer fin aid, but don't be overoptimistic. I got in, but they gave my only 1/5th of the total cost, so i'll apply again this year. PM me for specific help

Just for everyones info, wash u's fall transfer deadline is feb 1. So get ur apps in as soon as possible after feb 1

The smallest class I've had at my university so far was about 75. Most average about mid-100's. In terms of academics, it's not as big of deal as people make it out to be. You will learn the same material regardless whether you're in a 20-something class or 300-something class. However, I have found it to be severely affecting my personal enjoyment of certain classes, especially when it comes to the social sciences/humanities courses where you would expect to have a class size lower than of 146. Somehow we still manage to pull off purely discussion-based classes. Yet given that, I still feel like part of my academic experience is fundamentally missing. It seems like part of the academic experience is actually social and learning from your peers can't be done as intimately and personally in a 146 person class.

Oh yes, Rahim, I'm also Muslim and am excited about all the Islamically-oriented classes WashU offers.

but info on financial aid…on my financial aid form i hv asked for help like crazy…but they still accepted me…and i am an international…i hope they dont screw me on finances…i dont get it…why accept a student whom they know cant pay the full fee n then dont provide enough financialaid? maybe they thought i had some grandpa somewhere who has saved up some money for me…well i sure hell dont hv one…i forgot to mention it on my essay… :)

I got in at the beginning of April. I think quite a few people applied to WUSTL. There just happens to be multiple “Official Wash U transfers 2009” threads lol.
