Hey there prospective Generals! I’m making this thread as the deadline has already passed, and a previous EDI thread has already been made. Feel free to discuss the general admissions process, interviews, anxieties, majors, etc… If you feel like sharing your stats, or an abridged version of them, don’t hesitate to do so as I’m sure it’ll help out future prospective students. Just share what you look forward to seeing the most!
As for me, it’s amazing that I’m still finding out more exciting things about the university. My goals include becoming a teacher one day, and I’m focusing on the biological area. As of the current moment, I’d like to major in Biology and minor in Computer Science. If I’m brave enough, maybe even double major!
I’m saying this because I found out this unique partnership W&L has with St. Andrews University in Scotland. It’s one of the most prestigious universities in the UK and the oldest in Scotland. Can you imagine the history in it? Plus, Scotland. 'nuff said.
Also, back in the US, somewhat nearby is Maryland, home to the NIH in Bethesda! It’s definitely a long shot, but getting an internship there would certainly be an amazing experience.
As for my stats, whoever happens to be curious.
International student needing a hefty amount of FA. Pray for me.
GPA UW : 8.9 / 10
SAT : 1980 (CR:680 | M:630 | W:670) 3rd time taking it.
Subject Tests : Bio-E: 690 | Literature: 680 | MathI: 590
TOEFL iBT: 114 / 120
ECs and Work experience revolve my experience as an English teacher. Full time employee at a famous English school in Brazil for over four years, since I was 16. Traveled abroad to Russia to teach English. Did a seminar in my school about language and cultural immersion.
I had an interview in Miami with a pretty awesome alumnus. He was extremely genuine with me, very upfront about his experiences there and a clear testament to the loyalty that the alumni have for W&L. Overall, it was an amazing 1 hour
My stats are subpar for your typical W&L student, so I hope my profile and interview add up to lean in my favor. We’ll see!
Hi, I am in similar situation. An international student who needs huge FA. I found that admission does not guarantee FA package, which is disappointing
Are you sure? The W&L Promise states that any admitted student with an income below 75,000 has their tuition waived with no loans. That includes international students.
Even if you have an income above that margin, they still offer need based aid. Their endowment is massive and their student population is small, a lot of resources go into financial aid.
@AGoodFloridian Please refer to http://www.wlu.edu/financial-aid/types-of-aid/aid-for-international-students
It states that “Washington and Lee University provides both need-based and merit-based assistance to between 15 and 20 international students in each entering class. Awards range from several thousand dollars to the full annual cost of attendance. It should be understood, however, that admission to Washington and Lee does not guarantee financial assistance.”
But I see that W&L Promise does apply to international students, so I am not sure if the Promise differs from Financial Aid.
I wouldn’t doubt yourself simply based off scores. I had a 1950 on my sat (670 math 650 reading 630 writing) , 630 math 1 subject test, 4.3 gpa,and I got in ED1. They might be looking for someone just like you, and if they want you they will look past scores. Best of luck! Hope to be your class mate next year. Go generals!
I received an email earlier today stating that our early decision will be released tomorrow (Friday) at 8:00 PM EST.
Good luck friends, see you then.
W&L sent me an email earlier today stating that we will be receiving our decision tomorrow (Friday) at 8:00 PM EST.
Good luck to you all, and may we receive the best outcomes possible! See you then.
Deffered.
Well, I’m happy they considered my profile at the end of the day. I think it was a combination of a significant financial need as well as average test scores. Hopefully I will have plenty of options when regular decisions come out!
Good luck to those who have been accepted! To the rest, carry on brothers hahah
I got deferred. I’m also an international student who needs FA.
