[ b]Reflection**

Strengths: Essays, interview? (see below), maybe recs
Weaknesses: All around average, weak on the EC’s
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’m a solid writer.

General Comments: Having lurked around CC yesterday, and after hearing from some of my friends who got waitlisted, I’m pretty surprised that I got in. I didn’t really show that much interest, and it seems that that is WUSTL’s main criteria (as long as you’re more or less on par statistically). The most I did was go to an interview despite there being snow. This is Seattle (well Bellevue). Three inches shut us down for a week. My interviewer probably thought I was some kind of hero.

BTW: how do you make the text effects show up?

“how do you make the text effects show up?”

You take the blanks off. For instance istead of ["blank"b] you type ["no_blank"b]

Reflection
Strengths: Class rank, test scores
Weaknesses: probably essays; perhaps lack of STEM extracurriculars - guess it depends on how you look at it; did not visit or contact WUStL
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted WPI, Drexel, Catholic U, Western New England, RPI

Reflection: Considering that D did not visit or contact school, I am surprised that she was not rejected! She received info from H’s coworker who is familiar w/ engineering school and decided at the last minute that it could be a good match for her academic interests (BME and Arabic). Any frustration lies entirely with her laid back attitude about the application process and not at all with the school. FWIW, her brother (HS class of 2014) is interested as well and WILL be visiting!

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Grades & SAT scores; ECs; essays & interview
[] Weaknesses: lack of much work or volunteering experience
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think the interview helped a lot - it helped me to show my interest in the school. I also really liked the essay I wrote - I was able to tell the reader(s) about myself while keeping my reader(s) engaged.[/li][/ul]
General Comments: Happy to be admitted! To those wait listed or rejected: Wherever you go, whether it be here or to any other wonderful university or college, you will do great things! Don’t be discouraged. Good luck to all!

xctrackfanatic, don’t think so. My feeling is that WashU rejected you for a reason. I am almost 100% sure you will get into at least one, if not all, the 4 schools you mentioned in your post.

I would not be surprised if you get into all 4. Good luck!

Decision: Accepted!!

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2390 Composite 800 Reading, 790 Math, 800 Writing
[] ACT: Didn’t submit
[] SAT II (if submitted): 800 Math II, 780 US History
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.995
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/70
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): AB (4), Euro (5), then Studio Art 2D (4), US (5), Lang (5), Bio (5), BC (5) with AB Subscore (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: 8 AP Classes, Honors Rhetoric (required). Hardest that our school has ever seen, by far.
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Finalist, AP something, Rensselaer Medalist, nothing special
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Piano, piano, piano. Church pianist and organist (in charge :D), Interlochen Arts Camp, accompanist, beginning piano teacher, play with my school orchestra on piano/violin, local county music club (president). Varsity Soccer: 9-10, Club/Varsity Swimming: 9-10 (placed at county, made it to states and such), and Varsity XC 11-12 (county and regionals and stuff). Then the standard Student Council, NHS, Beta Club, tutoring, Mu Alpha Theta, TA, youth group member, academic team. I was really weak on leadership not related to music.
[] Job/Work Experience: just tutoring and teaching piano a bit. not sure if that counts and they sure didn’t see the internship i started at the local paper.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Many, many hours at my church each week.
[] Essays: Common App was okay, an overly-sentimental description of my childhood best friend and how he influenced me.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Never read them, but I’m sure the one from my Latin teacher of 2 years was great, while the one from my math teacher of 3 years was probably okay.
[] Counselor Rec: She’s not the brightest bulb nor does she know me very well. This could’ve hurt me.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: None

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
[] Intended Major: Pre-Med/Performing Arts?
[] State (if domestic applicant): NC
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: very small, new-ish charter school. we’ve only had one kid get in to an Ivy, and that was last year to Princeton.
[] Ethnicity: So white
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: upper middle class?
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): a farm girl from a poor, rural location without many opportunities?
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Transcript, test scores, music depth?
[] Weaknesses: No demonstrated interest, essay, dearth of leadership, no major awards, not spectacular
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’m completely shocked, actually.
[/ul]General Comments: Before I clicked on the decision link I thought about how many other scholarship/deferral disappointments there had been and prepared myself for another. I’m not really sure why I got in because I showed literally no demonstrated interest and I started my application very late. Seeing posts about people being over-qualified, now I think that I might have gotten in because I am not over-qualified and not quite under-qualified, so they think that I won’t be accepted at any Ivy? This kind of upsets me because I had originally thought that this would be a good sign for later schools  But congrats to everyone who was accepted and good luck to everyone for the rest of the regular decision bloodbath!
Keep calm and carry on.
