[] Intended Major: Biology/Spanish
[] State (if domestic applicant): KY
[] School Type: Private religious
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: low/medium
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): No
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Test scores, leadership
[] Weaknesses: ECs seem pretty scattered; also, several Cs freshman and junior year
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I honestly have no idea why I wasnā€™t outright rejected, even with so many people being waitlisted. Frankly my stats are not quite typical of WashU students - maybe not terrible, but still not where they should be. I showed a lot of interest though, and my recommendations are probably pretty strong.
[/ul]General Comments: Iā€™m not really too upset about the rejection - I would have loved to go there, but I get that they have to be selective, so no hard feelings. As far as other options, Iā€™ve been accepted to three backups in my area but Iā€™m really hoping for a yes from Kenyon this week since thatā€™s become my first choice. I also applied to UChicago, Case Western, Barnard, Columbia, and NYU but I was WLed at Case and UChicago, and Iā€™m still waiting on the NY colleges. Iā€™m really hoping Iā€™ll end up in Gambier but good luck to everyone who will be at WashU in the fall!

Decision:Waitlisted

[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5s on Psych, BC Calculus (and AB subscore), Physics B, Stats, US History, and English Language
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: APs: Computer Science, US Gov, Macro, Lit, Physics C, Chem. Then Math Team and a required computer class
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None, really. 5-time AIME qualifier.
[/li]

[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Middle class
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Gay? From Alabama? I donĀ’t think either of these are really hooks, though.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT/AP scores, maybe essays Ā– I felt like they were pretty risky and wouldĀ’ve depended on the reader
[] Weaknesses: No fantastic awards or ECs, potentially essays
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think they just didnĀ’t like me, and IĀ’m okay with that.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at MIT, Vandy (Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship recipient), Auburn (Elite Scholarship recipient), and UAB; Waitlisted at Caltech

[/ul]General Comments: 5 other people from my school applied, and I thought a few of us would get in, but all of us but one were waitlisted. The guy who got accepted is a legacy, so I think that may have been a factor, though I do think he deserved it just as much of any of us Ā– more than most of us, actually. Anyways, donĀ’t let rejections get to you, because you might be accepted other places, and really, none of this is personal. Best of luck to everyone and congrats to everyone who was accepted!

@premedstudents ā€“ did you do anything since the ED round to enhance your application? are you going to go to WUSTL?

[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected from UChicago, Waitlisted to MIT, Accepted to Caltech!!! :D

[/ul]General Comments: Congrats to everyone who got in!

ā€œI was waitlisted because I was overqualifiedā€

 • Doesnā€™t get into UChicago or MIT

My apologies in advance. I know this is probably unnecessarily mean, but itā€™s nothing personal. Iā€™m just sick of this whole notion that applicants can be overqualified for washu, and thatā€™s why they get rejected. Thatā€™s nothing but a way to massage your bruised ego. How about considering that washu canā€™t possibly accept everyone who is qualified, and maybe you just werenā€™t a good fit for them? Again, nothing personal, you just happened to be the most recent case I saw. Anyways, congrats on being accepted to Caltech.
