Official Wednesday PSAT Discussion

Drbond:
yo guys, can anyone tell me wut score i would get if i get say 2 wrong math, 4 wrong writing, and 4 wrong english?? thanks a million

Assuming you didn't omit anything, you'd get a 77 in math, a 75 in writing and English, with a combined score of 227.

Argh... I know my score is miles away from 227. I wish it was that!

I completely missed that x<y (xy^3...) question... I put x<z. It made sense to me during the test!

So obvious, how could I miss it?

Oh, that Adams kids (something about lunches?) question boggled me. I put 2, anyone else? I changed it from 6.

The triangle (4x), I got 3. I didn't guess.

I just realized my mistake on the circles one....what was the Question for the 4x one?

yea, i want to know that too

can you cancel psat scores?

I got 2 for the lunch of adam's kids thing, too!

Could you please elaborate on the 4x triangle question? I have no idea what the question is.

I got transformative for the japanese who got relocated to chicago.

17 circles (the left-over 2 makes another circle, so 16.333 --> 17)

I got 2 as well for the lunch problem. I have tried to work it out since and I can't seem to find any other combinations.

For the triangle problem, it's probably easiest to just find the area of the rectangle in terms of x, and subtract 1 from it to get the area of the unshaded region. Solve for x using one of the triangles, and then plug that into your first equation to get the answer.

I put that the Polish knight problem was no error, although C looked very appealing at the time (C was "there," and I wasn't sure if that was ambiguous or not).

Since the figure was drawn to scale, I just guessed 2. It was the only one that looked like it could work :)

how do we cancel psats, is the process similar to cancelling SAT's?
i dont want to see my score, i kno its low

For the 4x question, it was this rectangle that was 3x by 4x= 12x area. I did the .5base*height thing to find the area of the shaded region in terms of x, and solved it by using a proportion.

I think I forgot to subtract the shaded area in terms of x from the total in terms of x, so I might've missed that one too...

That's two questions down the hole. The highest I can hope for now is a 77!

the unshaded area answer was 2, right?

I think all I missed was a grid-in on math, omitted 4 and missed around 3 on verbal, and maybe missed 4 on the writing section. What do you guys think my score is?

"the unshaded area answer was 2, right?"

Pretty sure, yes

I don't think i missed any on writing, but i have already counted three that i missed in math, and that number will probably grow a bit. CR should be ~70.

Let's discuss more questions and answers!!!

How did you do the last math one? What was the question? IAll I remember is getting 1/15 or something as the answer.

I got two for the unshaded region. The shaded region = 1 and in terms of x, was 4X^2. The total area of the rectange was 12X^2. Thus, the total area was three times 4X^2 or 3 times 1 = 3. Then by subtracting 1, for the area of the shaded region, one could find the answer to be 2.

I got two for the green marble question.

I got 64 for (a-8)(b+8) = 0 since one had to be 8 while the other could be any other value. By making a=8 and b= 0, the answer becomes 64+0=0. I think this is correct.

I also got 17 for the circles.

For the shortest distance , my answer was 18-13.4 or 4.6.

can someone share more about the "short story" answers on the writing section; i think my last three asnwers were E, D, B. please confirm.

Did anyone else get C for a LOT of the answers on the Writing part?

I ended up with MANY Cs. Cs were mostly verbs.

i think i'll get like a 60 combined for this thing, i think i failed every section

For the shortest distance , my answer was 18-13.4 or 4.6. ??? i did the pythagoream thm.....
how did u get 2 for the marble one?

I also forgot to subtract the area of the shaded area. Was the Carbonville-Nearburg question really that simple? Man, I can't think during those things. I set up a right triangle and solved for the missing side and got 12.01. I assumed this was correct because of the unusual town name of Carbonville and the answer, 12.01, which corresponds to the molar mass of Carbon.
