Daughter, who was an EE likely, got her acceptance today in CA. The magnet was nice. The generous financial aid package was amazing … so much better than the other schools she’s heard from so far. We continue to love every new thing we learn about Wellesley.

From CA. Received my letter today. I screamed of joy when I saw it and knew I was accepted. They dont send big envelops to rejects right?

Generous financial Aid, more than UCLA has offered me!
Whose going to the Spring event on April 25-27??

^ i’m definately going!!

Congrats to everyone that got accepted!!! Question: Since many of you applied to women’s college like Wellesley did anyone apply to Smith?? Did you get in or rejected?

Also welles 10… From your posts it seems like you work in the admissions office?? I was wondering how if it was extremely difficult to transfer to Wellesley after 1 year??I know transfering in general is really hard but I would like to know Wellesley’s and if they do accept transfer students not too selectively…although i know its based on grades from first year of college. Do you know how difficult it is?

I got rejected from Smith, but got in Wellesley. It was understandable for me I guess because I didnt show much interest in Smith college (I applied at the last minute) and the interview was just awkward.

ACCEPTED! So happy right now!

have anyone heard of any one still get in after an unlikely for EE?

cheejch - I do not work in the admissions office. I’m just a current senior at Wellesley who happens to keep up on all this admissions stuff :)

About 10-15 students transfer into Wellesley (that includes after 1 year and after 2 years at another school) each year. This past year we had a rather large number of transfers (about 20 or so I think). They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and schools, so you’re not exactly at a disadvantage based on where you’re transferring from. You should do well at whatever school you attend and then see if you’re a good fit at that school or not. If you think you would be a better fit at Wellesley or another school, then think about transferring. I would not go into undergrad thinking/expecting to transferring to another school; it will only make your time at your current school worse, and you’ll miss out on the great opportunities you do have in front of you already.

@cheejch, re Smith: I was accepted to both and got a merit scholarship from Smith.

General Comments: Congrats to everyone accepted! I know very little about Wellesley and am thinking about visiting for the ALANA program. ( : I adore my cute little purple magnet!

Today, I got my wait list letter from wellesley as well as my rejection letter from usc. (waitlist wasnt a surprise, rejection to my safety school, yeah that was)
Right after getting reading the letter, I replied online saying that I wanted to get stay on the list. Like many of the other waitlistees, I am planning on campaigning for my acceptance. hope to see many of you in the fall!

gpa: 3.95/4.5 UW/W
rank: unknown, somewhere near the top
aps: 8, 4s and 5s on all taken
essays/ recs/ interview: all great, i thought.
extracurriculars: a whole slew of things that i have been highly involved with since freshman year, leadership positions in all, founder of two, nationally ranked in two. LOTS of community service.

[] GPA, Unweighted and Weighted: 3.98 UW, 4.17 W (who knew)
[] Rank: Rank is weird at my school. My transcript had a 1/81 on it, but that’s a weighted rank and my counselor probably noted that we actually don’t rank.
[] ACT: My transcript had a 32 (36E, 29M, 34R, 30S, 11 essay)
[] APs (including this year’s): English Lit (5, 2008), English Lang (5, 2008), USH (5, 2009), Psych (2010), Bio (2010), Euro (2010)
[] IBs (including this year’s:
[] Senior Yr Courseload: Three APs, calculus, and stuff I need to graduate
[] Number of Apps from Your School: One other one, which was withdrawn when she was accepted ED II to Bryn Mawr.
[] Other stats (Awards, etc.): Some writing awards, publication of poetry, National Merit Commended. Nothing big.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Professional choir (four years), Quiz Bowl (three years, co-captain), legislative debate (three years), Student Council (one year, secretary), volunteer with children’s opera camp (four summers)
[] Job/Work Experience: I had an internship with a hospital. Other than that, nada.
[] Essays (subject and responses): Common App was about my handwriting (not bad, but I’ve done better); Wellesley was about how I’d like to learn Russian and studying with Nabokov’s department seemed like a good place to start, among other things (meh)
[] Teacher Recs: Glowing, “one of the top in my career.” I love my teachers!
[] Counselor Rec: Probably good. She adores me.
[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): Alumna interview with someone who graduated in the 1950s. It was a bit awkward (she had a cold and mentioned later on that she had a serious illness), but it went quite well. She seemed impressed by my range of commitment to activities.
[li] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): Lawl.
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Michigan!
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Dirt poor public magnet, but the second-best school in the state and certainly the best in the area.
[] Ethnicity: White and nerdy
[] Income Bracket: ~$90,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): See above. Nothing.
[] Strengths: Commitment to ECs, strong academic record, good teacher recs
[] Weaknesses: Math scores
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I honestly have no idea.

[/ul]Other Factors: Wellesley likes to accept girls from my school; a predecessor co-captain of the Quiz Bowl team was accepted a few years back, but went elsewhere.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Looking at my acceptance letter and the accomplishments of the women on this board, I have no idea why I was accepted, but I’m pleased. If only my financial aid were up to snuff.

@speakmusic14 – that is really surprising that usc rejected you. weird things happen during admissions. hopefully you have somewhere awesome to go :)

To those who are accepted: what was the listing of the super cool/ amazing people in your class? I heard one of them is an elephant trainer??

Ahaha yeah
Junior olympic fencer’s and horticulturist’s, botanical garden, blase blase… Stuff like that. It was a wordy letter, and enjoyed every part of it. Hahaha I was thinking, if anyone is as intense as that, then they are most definitely on CC. In fact, I think I “ran into” the fencer at some point on the boards :D

Is anyone going to the Spring Open Campus days??
I’m sooooo excited.

APO Address - My dd has applied to Wellesley RD and she received an email that the decision will be posted online on the 26th of March. Although we’re Americans living abroad, I assumed that Wellesley is considering her as an international candidate. However, the provided ID/pin didn’t work. Is it possible that we’re getting mailed the decision since we have an APO address? But then, in this forum, I noticed that decisions are sent UPS. UPS doesn’t service an APO address so what does it all mean? How are we getting notified of the decision?

I would contact or email the admissions office immediately. If you email, they get back to you super fast too :D

I know a good number of people currently at Wellesley with APO addresses so admissions must have a system set up… Call/email though to be sure.

inconspicuous.s.n. - I think I’m going!

Just a question for those of you who have already attended… Is it okay if my parents don’t come with me? My mom is thinking of just sending me up to Wellesley because the dates clash with her schedule… but she’s really worried about sending me alone. Any insight on this? :S If it matters, I received a free trip for SOC… If there’s anyone who has gone to SOC with W’s free offer, how does it exactly work?
