Official Wellesley Class of 2014 Decisions Thread

I’ve been wondering about that, as well.

Your parents can come with you or not - it doesn’t matter. If parents come, they only stay for a little while; there are one or two parent-related information sessions, but the bulk of the time is for the students.

If you come by yourself, Wellesley does offer transportation from Boston Logan to the school. And there are other modes of transportation that are pretty convenient as well; you’ll receive a lot of information about SOC in the mail in the coming weeks.

I found the website! It’s still being updated so keep on checking it for updates:
http://www.wellesley.edu/admission/SOC/travel.html

Pozzol…congrats on Duke! That is wonderful news!!!

i live in new york but still havent gotten a letter from wellesley. i dont know whether i should wait some more…

has anyone in minnesota gotten their decision yet?

I got my UPS thing yesterday, in the Netherlands, it is cool! The magnet is cute! Did you guys get the personal envelope too? It is so amazing! Wellesley sure put a lot of work in the admissions package!

(Financial aid is amazing too, I was really afraid I wouldn’t be able to attend)

Yes, the one that you put your deposit in? think everyone may have received that.

No no not the deposit envelope, I got a handwritten note by an admissons director! It is really amazing! Ooh, how I love thy Wellesley!

gbs- That’s so cool! Good for u :)

Thanks! I would have thought everyone would have one!

Are you going to Wells for sure?

a suggestion for those unhappy with the aid package, we added a Financial statement explaining actual expenses vs income and special circumstances that do not find a way into the application process. there are actual blank forms online somewhere. I found one and personalized it to our circumstances. I used the outline of the budget used in many programs in order to determine if you are eligible for benefits.

I can’t believe we are finishing our junior year already and you ladies are just starting the new wave of Wellesley Women. The open house is great. I had to pay for the bus, because only my Dtr got the free trip, but the cost was reasonable.
Another woman college we considered was Chatham in PA. Awesome campus and curriculum but we got the lowest financial aid package of all colleges.
Good luck to the rest of you still waiting.

This weekend is Anime Boston, just one more plus for my daughter…

Thanks for the suggestion, IVe! You don’t happen to still know where I might find such a form, do you?

GBS- Yes  I sent in my deposit a few days ago. I’m so excited! You?

Is it me, or does the Wellesley board seem a bit dead to any of you? My sister warned me that a lot of people “fall off” once they get their decisions, but this is insane!
Anyway, where else have ou guys been accepted and where do you see yourselves going next year, current fin aid package and all?

Just to show you all how f&$#ed up the decisions were this year, here are my stats. Wellesley was my top choice and I also applied to 8 other schools and got into NONE of them.

Decision: REJECTED

Stats:
SAT I (by section): M: 650 ; CR; 690 ; W: 750
SAT IIs: Lit: 700 ; US History: 760
GPA, Unweighted and Weighted: About a 3.89
Rank: Top 20%
ACT: 28 overall, didn’t submit though.
APs (including this year’s): English (5), US History (4, Art History (3), Biology (3)
IBs (including this year’s): none
Senior Yr Courseload: All taken at Community College, so basically taking upper level sophomore college courses.
Number of Apps from Your School: I think just me.
Other stats (Awards, etc.): none

Subjective:
ECs listed on app:
Work as Copy Editor, Layout Editor, Staff Writer and Associate Editor of various HS Newspapers (I moved a lot,) work with 2 International Anti-Genocide, Human Rights organizations, running a chapter in my hometown of each of these organizations, doing dance classes 8 hours a week and teaching 2 hours a week for younger ages, Organized two fundraisers for Darfur, over 600 hours of work with over 500 people attending and raised over $6,000.
Job/Work Experience: Worked as a receptionist from Junior year+, about 12 hours a week.
Essays (subject and responses): One was a sort of creative piece about my grandfather and what he taught me about learning, the Why Wellesley one just talked about my interest in Human Rights.
Teacher Recs: One from my AP English teacher who adored me, one from a college Professor who teaches in the field I want to go into, and one supplemental one from the Director of the international organization I volunteer/work for.
Counselor Rec: Didn’t read it, but she liked me!
Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): It was short and I was interviewed by a senior student, she was a little surprised at my achievements but I think it went well overall.
Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): none.
Location/Person:
State or Country: NY, USA
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): normal public, large, most apply to SUNYs
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: low-ish ($60,000 a year)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My dad didn’t go to college…
Strengths: My uniquely focused interests and my leadership within the organizations I volunteered with
Weaknesses: I guess my math SAT score.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I honestly have no idea. Everyone was telling me I would get in here.
Other Factors: (Did you apply ED?): I applied EE and got an unlikely. It was downhill from there.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I am happy for those with acceptances but this was my top choice school. I visited twice, stayed overnight and did an on-campus interview, and they just threw me in the reject pile after all my hard work. That really hurts.

ilywellesley – that’s tough and i’m sorry wellesley didn’t work out for you. people go through similar situations with many schools they apply to. it’s hard to comprehend why you seem to fit well for a school, but the admissions committee doesn’t think so. you can always try to transfer later on, perhaps things will work out the second time around. good luck!

So I’ve filled in my international certification of finances form…but i don’t know where to mail it to! Do I sent it to the admissions office or the financial aid office? On the form I have to fill out (from collegeboard) it says just to ‘return to the college, not collegeboard’. On the instructions sheet, it says if I have any questions, to contact the financial aid office (and it gives the address) but it doesn’t explicitly state to send it to the financial aid office. I think it would be common sense to send it to the financial aid office, but because it doesn’t explicitly say so, I’m not too sure. Anyone knows where to send this?

All financial information goes to the financial aid office. At this point, admissions only takes your decisions (accept/decline position or waitlist) and deposits.

thank you! I’m going to go mail it off tomorrow!!

ilywellesley- See, this is a prime example of why you shouldn’t allow yourself to get THAT tied to a school. Hopefully that didn’t come off as insulting, but I just mean that it makes rejection easier if your more detached. I can’t say I know how you feel, but I do sort of understand. The only rejection that depressed me was Barnard…because I really loved that school. But it worked out, because Wellesley was my first choice all along. You seem like an outstanding applicant, but ultimately the decision is up to the Wellesley admission staff. As welles10 stated earlier, you could always apply as a transfer applicant. I have faith that things will work out for you too :)

Those of you who are considering matiriculating should chek out this. It’s a facebook page with a bunch of tours :)
