Decision: Likely

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2400 (one sitting)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: US History: 800, Chemistry: 790, Literature: 750
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.90
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 3 / 286
[] AP: US History: 5, Music Theory: 4, Italian Language and Culture: 4, Chemistry: 5
[] IB: N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: Honors Italian V, Honor Civics, AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP English, AP Gov’t and Politics
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): HAHA, bunch of little things
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Piano and Strings Club (President), Italian Honor Society (President), Academic Decathlon (Executive Board Member), Peer Leaders Are Cool, Pit Band, Jazz Band
[] Job/Work Experience: Century 21 Dept. Store Sales Cashier, Beta Tester Demidec, Babysitter
[] Volunteer/Community service: Docent @ Historic Speedwell, Acorn Hall
[] Summer Activities: 2009 NJ Scholar
[] Essays: I wrote about having a meltdown in NJ Scholars, not being able to talk, and voila! I realized the power of learning/discussion. It was rather corny, but extremely poetical. The short answer I wrote about was my piano, and how my parents made me quit lessons, but I still continued anyway. My ‘Why Wellesley’ essay was loaded with tons of specifics from their history department (intended major: history).
[] Teacher Recommendation: English teacher, Italian teacher
[] Counselor Rec: don’t make me laugh.
[] Interview: It was OK, she asked me to bring my resume, which was three pages long… she was impressed, but I don’t think the interview was a strong one. A lot of canned questions, and canned responses.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: ARE YOU KIDDING ME HECK YES
[] Intended Major: History
[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: FEMALE
[] Income Bracket: $170,000
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): um. I’m special!
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I write pretty good essays.
[] Weaknesses: These essays may seem over-dramatic.
[li] Why you think you were likelied: I have a very strong academic track record, and the teachers who recommended me, I have a very good relationship with. Moreover, my activities are very unique (I don’t know any other docents), and as are my essays. I don’t want to sound arrogant, but to me, Wellesley was more like a safety to reasonable school.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments:  I think a lot of why Wellesley has such a high acceptance rate (hovering in the thirties) is because a lot of the females (in this outstanding pool, applause applause) who apply to Wellesley also apply to schools like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, and Wellesley loses a lot of potential students to these universities. Anyway, congratulations to all the likelys/possibles, and to the unlikelys, don’t worry about it. It’s the how YOU use the college. The college doesn’t mold you, you mold your own experiences. Wellesley is not absolutely essential to your grand ambitions; in the end, it’s just you and your ambition!

nd to the unlikelys, don’t worry about it. It’s the how YOU use the college. The college doesn’t mold you, you mold your own experiences. Wellesley is not absolutely essential to your grand ambitions; in the end, it’s just you and your ambition!

What a nice thing to say blupomodoro… you sound like a great person.

Did anyone hear about Financial Aid yet (that received Likely Letter), or does that come with or after the official acceptance? Will it be via mail, email, date confirmation?

We don’t get our ‘official’ acceptance until regular decision time. Which means, that financial aid will come around the same time as other colleges.

Has anyone received anything (mail/email) ever since we got our likely letters?

^ nope–nothing in the mail.

they should send us some wellesley gear!

although, i’ve heard that if you are awarded financial aid, you get “gifts” and $100 gift card to the bookstore before fall term starts :)

Letter came over the weekend addressed to my wife from the president of the Wellesley Alumnae Association discussing the reasons our daughter — who got her likely letter — should pick Wellesley. Smart move: work on Mom. We’re planning to head back for the Open Campus days, which means Wellesley will leave the last impression before decision day. … And, yes, it would’ve been nice if some gear had come with the likely letter (hard to do online, though), but we ordered a nice Wellesley sweatshirt from the bookstore that our daughter has worn nearly every day since its arrival.

yeah! we got that letter and brochure today, too

Hey, I received that today, too! : ) I also just received an email from admissions about a new blog, Spotlight on Wellesley.

Link to the blog please? (I am curious :)

welles10 - [Spotlight on Wellesley](http://wellesleyadmission.typepad.com/spotlight/) :)

My D has never gotten a piece of mail from Wellesley. Sometimes I wonder if her app even went through, but they did show up for the CSS Profile/IDOC. Did anyone else find that they sent less mail than other schools?

Thanks, x501  It looks awesome!

susanr64 - I feel that (at least when I was a prospie) Wellesley sent a few letters, but not as much as schools who sent me something nearly every day/week. I got more letters once I was accepted.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I reeeeaaallly want to go
[/li]

General Comments: :)

Wow, congrats everyone and good luck!
I hope I will see you all as my future classmates!

Do they have an accepted student weekend? What percentage typically attend?

Yes, there is an accepted students weekend. Spring Open Campus is April 26-27. ALANA Spring Open Campus (asian, latina, african american, native american…) is April 25-27.

ALANA students stay overnight for two nights instead of one and partake in cultural-specific activities.

I do not know the percentage of accepted students who attend. A few hundred students come to campus each Spring Open Campus. I think that if you are unsure if you want to attend or are sure and want to see the campus more, you should definitely attend! It’s a lot of fun :)

More details about this should come with your acceptance letters (fingers crossed for all of you!) and of course, they’ll send you a lot more mail about it as it gets closer. All accepted students can attend, so that includes all you ED-ers!
