Any Whitman transfer applicants out there? Let me know! Also- feel free to post your stats (where you're from, what school you're transferring out of, GPA, etc.)

I am!! I’m a current freshman at St. John’s college (really small alternative liberal arts school)

Here are my stats

HS GPA: 4.79
College GPA: 3.0 (3.44 at midterm)
SATs: 1990
ECs: High school- super into speech and debate
College- theater nothing really significant

I’ve also applied to Smith (just heard back, I got accepted!!) Wellesley, William and Mary, and SMU

Do you know when we’re supposed to hear back?

Wonderful! Nice to meet you Alex. I am so happy that you were accepted to Smith! They are an extremely competitive school ESPECIALLY for transfers, so bravo! Along with Whitman, I also applied to Skidmore College, Lewis & Clark College, Bard College, Lawrence University, and University of San Diego.

My stats:

I’m currently a sophomore at a California Community College (I went to UCSB for my first quarter but didn’t like it)

HS GPA: 3.94 (weighted) / 3.75 (unweighted)
College GPA: 3.75 (4.0 midterm)
SATS: 1730 (not so good :\ I am horrible at standardized testing)
ECS: High school-- Interned at the San Diego Zoo (in the Gorilla habitat), Editor-in-chief for my yearbook, editor for a published book, studied abroad (in Italy, Greece, and Turkey)
College-- Worked 40 hours (full time) while going to school, volunteered at the San Diego County Medical Society (20 hrs/week), Phi Theta Kappa Vice President, volunteered for the San Diego Wildlife National Refuge, volunteered at my college’s museum, and volunteered for the San Diego River.

I am SO nervous! I have heard that we hear back through Whitman’s webadvisor on April 19th. Did you interview with the transfer coordinator? I had a phone interview with him- he was very kind! He told me that the transfer acceptance rate this year will be around 25%-- so pretty selective! He also told me they are very need-sensitive which I’m a little worried about because I applied for financial aid. Did you apply for FA? Are you highly considering Whitman or do you think Smith will be your top?

Thank you so much! I didn’t interview but I have been in touch with the transfer coordinator and he is very nice! I didn’t know it was going to be so selective this year! I don’t which is my top choice yet, I think it will come down a lot to financial aid and how many of my credits they take. I applied for financial aid too so I don’t know how that will effect things. Is Whitman your top choice?
Best of Luck! You look like a great candidate! I’m sure you’ll do well!

Hey Alex- That’s great! I know, I had no clue it was going to be so selective this year. I think it has to do with their high retention rate, plus they are extremely selective for their freshmen class as well. Financial aid is definitely going to affect my decision too. My top choice is Skidmore College (in NY), and I’m terribly nervous for their decision. Whitman is high up there too, but with their low acceptance rate, I’m a bit pessimistic about their decision. But hopefully we both get in! Let me know if you do, and keep in touch Good luck!

@alexinwonderland hey alex! have you checked your admissions status on Whitman’s webportal lately? mine says “complete.” i was wondering if you received this same status!

I just got in! It was crazy exciting. Unfortunately, I’ve received very little financial aid… sooo… :/

buut… I’m a tentative transfer from a small/medium private school, 3.4 college GPA, 3.8 high school GPA. I worked really hard on my essays and did a LOT of extracurriculars in high school.

Really hoping I can get some scholarships to work out…

I got in too! I was actually a little surprised since I’ve never even visited the school, and my application was completed a month late (long story, I promise none of it was my fault! haha) but I’ve already committed to Kenyon so I won’t be attending. Best of luck to you all!
