apparently Winston Churchill's mother picked purple?
yeah when I visited and bought a t-shirt I picked the only one that had less purple than gold- it was basically a yellow shirt that had "Williams" in ambiguously dark purple/black letters.
the coach there has since convinced me that purple is a manly color, which is good because that'll be my xc uniform..

i got in early write a couple weeks ago. waiting on brown and duke. 3 others from my school got in. maybe i'll see some of you next fall.

Decision: Accepted

General Comments:Colleges DO accept regular people, to those of you '11ers fretting right now. I had so many strikes against me; my GPA, my race, my location, my socio-economic class... but I still got in. Granted, I had some pretty good extra curricular activities, but I'm really nothing special. I remember looking at the stats of people who got in last year thinking, "Oh wow, I'll never, ever, get in." But you know, I was wrong: I have never made honor roll in my entire high school career. So don't worry about it!

^^ was that early write or did you just get accepted today?

Early Decision baby. Translation: MAJOR senior slide.

Your standardized test scores are pretty amazing so that definitely helped you.

what is early write? does that mean like if you haven't received your decision, it is likely that you got rejected or waitlisted?

do they send acceptance first?

all regular decision acceptances, as well as rejections, will be sent on March 29. Early writes were sent out gradually throughout the past month. Just because you didn't receive any early write doesn't automatically mean you were waitlisted/rejected. I'm still waiting to hear...so good luck to both of us!

thnks, but what is early write? like Early Decision II?

Early writes are sent out to around 200 of the applicants who have outstanding credentials that Williams really wants to...woo into enrolling I suppose. By giving these people their acceptances early, it gives them more time to decide on where they're going to enroll and stuff like that...how do I wish I received one...

it's basically to raise Williams' yield-- the percentage of people they accept who decide to matriculate-- Williams tries to get a leg up on wooing people they think might also get accepted into the "big name recognition" places like HYPS.

Exactly, and for me it's definitely working. Williams is now my top choice.

i'm copying and pasting the same thing i posted for another forum. This ins't about stats-bragging. i seriously couldn't care less for my stats since i was happily accepted. I 'dedicate' this post to next year's international applicants (as i was observing carefully the same official decision thread last year). Hopefully this helps.

General Comments: So elated to be in after being deferred early, but now I have to make the difficult decision between Williams and Columbia College. Two schools that are so amazingly different in every possible way except for their tradition of excellence.

I wanted to thank all of you for your help here on CC.

has everyone already heard from williams? i haven't heard anything yet...

rye, Outstanding! Columbia vs Williams is indeed a schizophrenic choice, but I can certainly see the appeal of both. Of course, I'm somewhat prejudiced toward Williams :) but either way good for you, great options!

Hey CONGRATULATIONS everyone! Look forward to meeting most of you on campus...
On a side note, I really wish we had all thought to put in our names with stats, because I can't recognise anyone on blackboard...it's confusing, because sometimes I'm thinking, "oh this sounds familiar" and then I don't have a clue who it is. Just a thought.

Fida,
I would suggest that you start a CC alias thread on the blackboard rather than give your real name here. At least that site is limited to Williams acceptees and students. And if someone really wants to know stats, they can cross reference back to here. Congratulations!

to Rye and Hello!!! Glad Williams came to its senses, if a bit late :). Hopefully the school's delay in accepting you guys won't make you forget what made you apply ED in the first place, and you'll turn down the Ivy "name" appeal and end up as Ephs ... you both sounds like you're ideal fits for Williams, with your wide range of interests and abilities.
