***Official Williams Class of 2019 RD Discussion Thread***

Please discuss here!

Good luck to everyone applying:)

Good luck to you as well!

I am on a gap year applying to colleges. I applied to Williams last year RD and was rejected, but I do like it and I’m a much stronger applicant now, so I figured I might as well try again. I’m applying ED to Vassar, though, so I’m waiting to submit my app until I hear back from them…

I’m interested in English, education, theatre, and German.

Good friend of mine applied ED to Vassar as well; good luck when the results come out next week! That will end potentially torturing months of waiting from Jan to April : )
But if brewer luck eludes you, may the Purple Cow bless you!

I applied SCEA to Yale, but haven’t started on the Williams essay yet. Did you write the supplemental essay? I would surely write it but I’m just curious why Williams made their supplemental essay optional this year.

Academically, I’m interested in Astrophysics, History, and Literature.

I’ve been brainstorming, but not sure yet exactly what I’m going to write. And I’m confused about the optional part as well - it seems odd for such a great LAC to make the writing supplement optional. I liked the (mandatory) prompt last year (something like “imagine yourself looking through a window. What do you see, and how do you relate to it”). I got to write a deep essay about New York Comic Con ^.^

Good luck with Yale! I applied there RD last year (and was rejected; oh well). Definitely my favourite of the Ivies. (and Vassar is historically its sister school  ).

I’m having trouble thinking of ideas for the essay

posting here because early writes should be coming in soon based on past years. post if you get one!

@lolyaywoo‌
What do you mean by early writes? Does Williams also send something like likely letters?

Early writes are essentially being accepted early. For students they really want they send them acceptance letters earlier to them.

Don’t fret if you don’t get one–the vast majority of accepted students don’t receive an early-write.

So it’s the same thing as a likely letter. Didn’t know that Williams does it as well; received one from Columbia a few weeks ago though

There is a difference. I do not believe likely letters official admit students (although I could be mistaken), they simply inform a student earlier on that they’re basically going to be admitted, but the official decision doesn’t come until later. Early writes are acceptance letters written to students they really want to attend and they just get an acceptance decision earlier on.

They both signify guaranteed acceptance though, and I guess that’s all that matters :stuck_out_tongue:

So has no one received an early write? Do you know if they’re stll doing them?

They’ve done them for so many years idk why they’d stop now. It is pretty late to have heard nothing though. I know the latest they’ve been received in past years is 3/10 which is today :-/

@lolyawoo yeah it’s possible they did send them out, but i would have thought at least someone might have posted?

Any idea if the Williams decisions will be before the 31st?

Pretty sure it’s the 27th and if Early Writes come then even earlier for some people

I just got an early write, via email!! Seems they’ve switched to digital everything, which may be the reason for the slightly delayed (maybe?) early write letters compared to previous years. Who knows, but yay!

Good luck to everyone else, hope you all find good news in your email regardless of whether that’s today or in the next month!

I just received an email advising me to clink on the link for my decision. Not only was I ACCEPTED, they also gave me an EXTREMELY generous FA package. I’ve decided to visit them during my spring break.

Good luck to everyone!

D just got one too! Very generous financial aid package, too! Yay!

Congrats!!!

Just checked my decision and am so happy I was accepted! Not only that but my financial aid package is amazing! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear from them, I wish you all nothing but great futures!
