Interesting. I kind of figured that would be the answer. But it also is an example of why some people complain the admission process is inherently unequal. Some of the posters above have cold called and asked Williams and been given what is apparently misinformation. But because you have access to a counselor with a relationship with an AO, they get more accurate information. Just as those whose families can afford to pay thousands for admissions consultants get better access to admissions personnel. Iām not directing this at you or even Williams really. Itās the way of the world. Just observingā¦
Yes that is true. Williams does not want people thinking the process is āoverā
@amck4321 When you say interest, is it merely interest, or did they tell the admissions officers that they were going? For me, when Wesleyan called, they merely asked if I would be willing to entertain the offer, while Bowdoin wanted a definite answer of yes or no. Do you know which one the current Williams situation is?
No clue. You are lucky to have gotten off of two lists though. Where are you going?
Thanks for the response. Bowdoin so far, but Iām willing to leave for Williams or Amherst.
I definitely donāt doubt anything thatās been said, but Iām just a little confused as to why the admissions office wouldnāt tell the truth when people called over the phone. I heard that someone was told that they were ājust making the first waitlist decisions on Friday.ā Williams is my first choice, but when I called another school about the waitlist, they told me straight up that the first round had been taken off. Why would Williams cover that up, and why would they reveal it to one counselor over another? Is it realistic that they would do something like this?
@TToDSkeith Also, congrats on Bowdoin! >:D<
Idk to be honest, but they did. I guess they donāt want you saying yes to another school while there is a possibility that they take more.
@hyoot7 Thanks! Anyway, letās look at the bright side. Does anyone know if the waitlist process is going well at ASP, HYPSM, Caltech, Wharton, or Columbia Engineering? I would assume thatās where most people would sacrifice Williams for.
@TToDSkeith One of my friends got off of the Pomona waitlist last week, but Iām not sure about the others. Has anyone heard anything else yet?
Also, what time of day do they usually notify, and is it by phone or email?
Careful not to get emotionally invested in needing to get off a waitlist. The odds are incredibly small, much worse than having just gotten in in the first place. Better to get totally, utterly happy with wherever you committed and if you do happen to hear, then itās a nice unexpected surprise. Being disappointed if you donāt hear is the wrong way to start your committed school in the far more likely event you attend it.
I recently called and was officially told that they have taken off the first wave (a small number of people, my guess is the first fifteen that were mentioned in the forum earlier), and that theyāre in a āholding pattern.ā My guess is that theyāll see who accepts the admissions offer (congrats to those who got in!!!) and then reach out to other people if necessary (today, Thursday, Friday, next week?). Has anyone else gotten off since last Wednesday or heard anything else? @hyoot7 @WillyHendrix98 @TToDSkeith
Thank you all for sharing information regarding the status of Waitlist here! Though the chance is small, I will be still waiting for Williams.
Does Williams do formal rounds of waitlist cuts?
@swarleys Iām not entirely sure, but I donāt think so! Also, just to keep us all occupied, where else did everyone commit?
I would think any further waitlist farming would be a tiny trickle ā basically just backfilling anyone else who gets off other waitlists late and gives Williams notice.
University of Virginia
Vanderbilt
Claremont Mckenna- why Williams over Vanderbilt?
