This is the 19th World Cup and Germany has made it to the Semi Finals a whopping 13 times! Even Brazil has made it to the semis only 10 times and Italy 8 times. Ze Germans just know how to win.

You can put the Entire Italian team too. Didier Drogba should be on that list. Cristiano Ronaldo.

And for Messi, the man has has 30 shots, no goals. after a while excuses need to die.

I think despite the no goals, Messi had quite a good world cup. He opened up space for his teammates while being marked by 2 players at a time in his last 3 games. He was also forced to take shots from afar as well. He hit the post 3-4 times in the tournament, and in his game against Nigeria, he would have scored 3-4 goals had it not been for Enyeama. and give Higuain 2 goals that could have easily been his own. The flaw of the Argentina team is that their midfield wasn’t moving well enough for Messi, (Di Maria flop, Veron bleh, Bolatti LOL, and Jonas…really?) Higuain+Tevez saw tons of chances because of Messi beating 2-3 defenders and then dishing it off.

Drogba should be excused, he broke his arm 2 weeks before the WC started, it was a miracle that he could even play.

The thing with Messi is that if you analyze him, despite the lack of goals, he played well and better than most of his teammates (but not all) on the cup. But he didn’t play half of what he plays in Barcelona. He plays waaaaaay batter at barcelona than in argentina national team. And (again) he didn’t make a single goal in 5 matches. Im sorry, but this lack of goals doesn’t spell “world’s best player” for me.

I will reiterate one more time. You cannot compare Xavi and Iniesta to Veron and Di Maria. They are in completely different leagues…(I have no idea as to why R.Madrid would pay such an absurd amount of money for Di Maria). The world’s best players are usually surrounded by the world’s best players on their teams and Veron will never be a world class player that can set Messi up and open space for him for Messi to score. Plus, Maradona put Messi at a AMF position that he usually does not play at. But because of the lack of depth in the Argentinian MF, he was forced to be put there.

He set up people greatly. But with all the chances he was gifted, especially the point blank ones, he failed to capitalize. That’s not saying “World’s Best”

I was beginning to think I was the only one actually watching the games.

I’ll take this from a soccer forum that I regularly read:

Lennin: Messi’s heart is NOT in the Argentinean team, but the Spaniard team. He does NOT give his 100 percent in the field as he does for them, so I agree with you

“He does NOT give his 100 percent in the field”
This statement annoys me (in general, not just in this case). How the hell would you know how much effort he is putting in?

because based on how we see him play on Barcelona, we know he actually could’ve done way better.
