[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing to speak of.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Class Rank and unweighted GPA. Golf.
[] Weaknesses: No major academic awards and my high school. Course rigor is also pretty poor.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Well I don’t really stand out when it comes to Yale applicants.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted EA to Notre Dame and Waitlisted at Vanderbilt.
[/ul]General Comments: I am so happy that I will be a freshman at Notre Dame next year. ND has been my dream school for as long as I can remember and I will probably fit in better there than I would at Yale, so I am still a very happy senior.

ACCEPTED. WHAT THE HECK.

Objective:
SATI: About 2300. Only took it once during the middle of my exam period in my country though.
SATII: Physics - 800. Maths - 800. French with Listening - 770.
Rank: 1/250, but I also got the highest possible high school leaving score in my country (it’s not too flashy anyway, but it corresponds to a score of 1/2000 students).
I didn’t do IB or APs or anything…
Major Awards: IPhO award (and I’m a girl, which probably helps), competed at another olympiad, state prizes in French, national and state prizes in writing… and I also have diplomas of music and French.

Subjective:
Extra Curriculars: Had a lot of leadership in music at school, performed as a concerto soloist overseas with my school in the 9th grade, held principal and concertmaster positions in statewide youth orchestras, represented the country at an international leadership conference, was on the student representative council…
Volunteer: Didn’t really detail these on the application. Was my state’s ambassador for health research, and I’ve played in a few major concerts (including some national televised ones) to raise money for medical research.
Essays: Incredibly quirkly. I think these helped.
Recommendations: I’m sure the teachers had the greatest sentiments in mind, but I have no clue what they were like - they weren’t used to writing American recommendations. It worked though!
Interview: Brilliant.

Other:

Country: An English speaking one in the Asia-Pacific region :stuck_out_tongue:
Strengths: Being very well rounded and pursuing music at a professional/semi professional level, having great high school academics (which weren’t reflected in my SATs, because honestly, it’s a different cultural context), IPhO and the fact that I’m female.
Weaknesses: Mediocre SAT Is, no sport, not a huge amount of community service.

I haven’t checked my other decisions yet (forgot the passwords!), but I got full scholarships to every uni I applied to in my home country. Trying to figure out financial aid at the moment, but I’m still in shock. Congratulations everyone!

[] Job/Work Experience: I teach biology to a group of undergraduates.
[] Volunteer/Community service: I’ve worked with local refugees for 2 years.

It’s not the best thing ever written, because creative writing isn’t my forte, but it showed my appreciation of diversity and world cultures and my sense of humor. Why Yale?- I made it really personal. I liked it. Supplement- Rushed and terrible. I thought it would ruin me. Short takes- I was just myself.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores, hooks, research, college curriculum.
[] Weaknesses: ACT math, two Bs last semester, supplement, rec from 10th grade teacher, and my app was just generally weaker than my RD apps
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: high stat URM, and I sent an update letter and my SAT I/II scores after being deferred.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at Columbia (likely letter and Kluge Scholar), Amherst (Early write/Schupf Scholar), Duke (likely), WashU, Emory, GA Tech, Johns Hopkins. Still haven’t received Harvard’s email.

Thanks to CC for helping me through this journey, and I hope this post will help out future applicants like the previous decision posts helped me.
