[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Competitive Magnet
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: $200,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores, Transcript, ECs, Essays
[] Weaknesses: Race, Location
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Besides being a cookie-cutter Northeast magnet school applicant, my time was heavily devoted to three sports and I was a viable recruit for two (was in contact with Yale’s Coach for one sport for most the summer) which I think made me stand out a bit. Or perhaps I was just the lucky cookie-cutter applicant who got accepted.
[/ul]General Comments: Happy knowing that if all else goes wrong, I already have Yale in the bag. To the deferred, good luck in the regular round, and to the rejected, don’t take this as an indication of your quality as a student, most Yale SCEAers end up going great places anyway.

Decision: Deferred

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2340: 800 CR, 800 W, 740 M
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: 800 Math II, 790 Spanish, 760 Bio Molecular
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0, all A’s, 95 average
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 8/600
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): four 5’s on Bio, US history, English Lang, Spanish Lang

[] Senior Year Course Load: 7 AP classes: Calc BC, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science 2, English Lit., Music Theory
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing big - AP Scholar with Honor, National Merit Semi., All-State Orchestra, about 20 district/region music awards, regional essay-writing award

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Orchestra/Violin (Concertmaster, Ass’t Concertmaster, Treasurer, Varsity section leader, JV section leader, soloist), Spanish Honor Society (Vice President), Environmental Club (Publicist), National Honor Society, internship, Future Business leaders of America, Interscholastic writing team

[] Volunteer/Community service: NHS and Spanish Honor Society, nature centers, local library, about 200 hours total
[] Summer Activities: summer school through Rice University, full scholarship to Baylor music camp, summer school credits at district high schools
[li] Essays: Common App one was about living in the Middle East for 4 years. Yale supplement was terrible, wrote it about 30 min before the deadline.
[/li]

[] Teacher Recommendation: THIS WAS MY DOWNFALL. My teacher submitted the letter late, filled out her OWN information wrong, made numerous spelling and grammatical errors to the point where I couldn’t understand it, and wrote “I recommend [808drum] to the recipient of this distinguished Scholarship” instead of recommending me for admission. Definitely learned a lesson from this.
[] Counselor Rec: Generic.
[] Additional Rec: No idea.
[] Interview: 2 hours, pretty fun, a couple of awkward pauses, but definitely didn’t hurt me.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Nope.
[] Intended Major: Chemistry (pre-med)
[] State (if domestic applicant): TX
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I don’t have any stand-out strengths :frowning: Just the average, vanilla applicant apart from my foreign experience.
[] Weaknesses: TEACHER REC and Yale supplement. Test scores relatively mediocre, rank wasn’t amazing.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: My app was pretty scattered, although I have a lot of music EC’s and achievements you’d never be able to tell I wanted to do pre-med; I should have showed this more.
[/ul]General Comments:
When I started browsing CC 2 years ago, I never thought I’d be posting stats; it’s amazing how much this site has helped me. I hope my information can help someone else!

Accepted: 28
Deferred: 56
Rejected: 5

CC acceptance rate: ~30%… not bad
