[] Income Bracket:
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):None!
[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[] Strengths:I think my awards and ECs. essays may also have helped.
[] Weaknesses:I’m sure there are many: i was expecting deferral! To those of you who are Asian and got deferred: i don’t think this ethnicity thing was a weak point for me…i was worried about it after all the hoopla in the news but now I am truly confident that Yale looks at the whole person.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:good counselor rec, great essays , good overall transcript, leadership roles.
[/ul]General Comments: Congrats to all those who were accepted. To those of you deferred, there is still hope…the numbers accepted so far are very small…I sincerely hope that most CCers will be part of the class of 2016 at Yale. Keep your spirits up, you are all amazing candidates! I am glad that I don’t have any more apps to do, but to those that still have to over the holidays, it will be worth it in the end. You’ll look back at this time in a few years and it is not as significant part of your life as you think it is right now…you have many more amazing years to come!!!

Does anyone know approximately how many of those deferred in the early round actually get in? I was deferred and I just want to know my chances.

I promised to post in the pledge thread. Accepted!

Decision: Deferred

[] Essays: Common App and Yale Supp. both were fun to write, and I thought quite good. Maybe a 8/10, 9/10 for both?
[] Teacher Recommendation: I saw only one of the two, it was very good, only thing was she spent the last paragraph summarizing things already found on the application
[] Counselor Rec: Fairly good I assume, though I never saw. He knows me pretty well from National Merit stuff.
[] Interview: I thought went pretty well, though we veered off onto tangents a lot
[/ul]Other[ul]

[/ul]Reflection[list]
[] Strengths: SAT II’s, Music Extracirriculars, Essays
[] Weaknesses: SAT I’s, Lack of huge major awards
[*] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I was expecting deferral, so it wasn’t a shock at all. The admissions process is a very arcane art indeed. Good luck to everyone at Regular, and for those denied, I’m absolutely sure you will find a fantastic place to go to as a member of the Class of 2016!

rejected…

Deferred. Congrats to those who got in! You were all accepted for a reason and I know you all deserved it.

[] Essays: I liked them and the teachers I showed them to really enjoyed them but perhaps they weren’t quite what Yale wanted.
[] Teacher Recommendation: One from a history teacher that was probably quite good (he really liked me) and one from a math teacher that was probably good but generic.
[] Counselor Rec: probably not glowingly amazing but definitely good and personal compared to most counselor recs. he knows me a lot better than most of his students because i’m always in Guidance haha
[] Additional Rec: none
[] Interview: one on campus when i visited that went fantastically, the Yalie really liked me and we ended up going off on this tangent. one off campus with an alum who lives in my town and is a professor emeritus at the university in my town(i live in Princeton)…not so good. he ended up trying more to sell me on Princeton than on Yale and arguing with me over why I should prefer Pton to Yale. -__-

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT, first interview, ECs, volunteering
[] Weaknesses: essays weren’t super strong, 2nd interview, GPA
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: i don’t have legacy and my GPA wasn’t that strong, combined with the completely surreal 2nd interview. also another girl from my school with similar stats/ECs but has legacy applied EA and was accepted, and usually Yale only takes 1 from my school early and maybe 2 more regular. [ *] Strengths: um…after seeing everyone else’s resumes I don’t really know lol
[ ] Weaknesses: …
[ ] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I’m an idiot and sent in my application with half my common app short answer chopped off, took the SAT too many times (4 hehe x.x), Asian male applying for engineering, don’t have very many extracurriculars that support my intended major, essays could’ve been better/more polished, I’m nothing really special compared to everyone else here on CC
[ /list][ b]General Comments:
congrats to everyone who got accepted! I hope you guys have a great time at Yale. To my fellow deferees, let’s get this college app party started lol. And to those who got rejected, don’t lose heart; Yale’s early action pool seemed way tougher than Harvard or Princeton’s this year, and remember that your college experience is really what you make out of it, regardless of what school you go to.
