[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: ~$90,000
[] Hooks/tips (URM, athlete, legacy, 1st gen, etc.): none
[/ul]Reflection[ul]: Yale has kinda lost the magic for me. I mean, if they don’t want me bad enough to accept me SCEA, do I really want to go there? Maybe I should have applied SCEA to Stanford, I have like 5 legacies there…
[] Strengths: grades (like all other applicants), common app essay was great
[] Weaknesses: why yale essay wasn’t the strongest it could have been, not enough major awards or extracurriculars…
[li] Why you think you were deferred: too many great applicants for Yale to take them all, I guess. Of course, that isn’t much comfort now. Also, middle class white girl from the suburbs here…[/li][/ul]General Comments: congrats to everyone accepted! Also, to everyone, bear in mind that Yale deferred 51.2% of their EA applicants this year!

Decision: Deferred

May post stats later…

[] Hooks/tips (URM, athlete, legacy, 1st gen, etc.): URM (but I don’t think this counts for international anyway)
[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays and extracurricular, Yale’s ostensible move to include more African students?
[] Weaknesses: TEST SCORES, but I think that my IB predicted might help with that a little…
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: SATs almost certainly
[/ul][ b]General Comments:** SATs are really hard for people not used to this kind of test I think, I wish US colleges would just accept my IB diploma as is like practically every other country haha

Congrats to all admits, I guess this pain will just have to go on for another 4 months. I swear this is what purgatory feels like -_-

Decision: Deferred

[] Income Bracket: ~70k
[] Hooks/tips (URM, athlete, legacy, 1st gen, etc.): None
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: One unique extracurricular. Essay perhaps.
[] Weaknesses: Not enough extracurriculars. Just overall, nothing to really make me stand out from all the amazingly qualified applicants!
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Not “well-rounded” enough, I’m guessing.[/li][/ul]General Comments: Big congratulations to those accepted!! I hope that you all have a great year! I expected a rejection, and got a deferral so I’m happy, haha. Crossing my fingers for an acceptance in late March/April 1!! I already have another school in mind in the (rather large, heh!) chance that I’ll be rejected by Yale and others come this Spring, so that’s good. To all those also deferred or denied: don’t feel bad! Low chances, so they have to skip over a few excellent students. Have a school in mind that you’ll love just as much as Yale. It really helps make deferral/rejection a million times easier because, honestly, there are so many great universities out there. Good luck!
[ *] Strengths: Definitely personal essays, Yale interest essay (special, unique essay that I won’t share), Counselor Rec
[ *] Weaknesses: ACT score, No submitted SAT
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I was accepted mainly due to my background and circumstance I feel. I am an immigrant who came to America at the age of four. Family lived in continual poverty, and I had to struggle to go to school. By struggle I mean due to lack of transportation, I would wait hours outside in the cold for a pickup. Definitely, I always took initiative because my parents know absolutely nothing about college or school. Both of my parents did not graduate highschool in Vietnam.
[ /list][ b]General Comments: Truly blessed to be accepted. I feel like Yale is going to be a great adventure and a great home. Also some advice to prospective students: be true to yourself on your application and share your personality in your essays and interview. They really do go a long way. The struggle is real but show Yale what you’re made of (:**

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Didn’t stand out enough. From what I’ve gathered, they don’t accept normal people.[/li][/ul]General Comments: To those who made it: congratulations! You’ve done what you probably thought was impossible about two hours ago. Best of luck to you Bulldogs! To those deferred/rejected: Right now, Yale might seem like the key to success or the most important thing ever. In four years, college will just be memories, knowledge, and a piece of paper. The name of the school on that piece of paper holds little importance compared to what you make of your time and opportunities at any college you end up at. Don’t get discouraged!

[ /list][ b]Reflection**
[] Strengths: Theatre, especially technical theatre is pretty unusual. My essays were good.
[] Weaknesses: Definitely my grades/ standardized test scores. If either had been absolutely exceptional I think I would have gotten in. Since they were both in the low to mid-90s type range, that killed me.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: GRADES/ TEST SCORES
[/ul][ b]General Comments:** WORK AS HARD AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN ON YOUR GRADES AND TEST SCORES. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS IF THOSE AREN’T EXCEPTIONAL.

Deferred. Not gonna post my stats but I’ll say this: I did not have exceptional scores. My scores were JUST above average. The main thing that got me through to committee were my essays they were honest and reflective. Also I’m on a gap year. If anyone wants to know details/ my stats/weaknesses etc feel free to PM me!

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: i guess i didn’t stand out, probably due to not taking a ridiculous amount of AP courses[/li][/ul]General Comments:
I was preparing myself for a deferral, but it still stings a bit. Better than a rejection, I suppose, but I can’t stand the thought of waiting for a few more months! Good luck to everyone else who was deferred…There’s still hope! :)
