i think this year that yale denied more qualified asians than before.

i had the opportunity to rub the toe, but didn't when I recalled a Yale news article (that renegade newspaper whose name I cannot remember...) which stated that Yalies put not-very-nice substances on the toe as pranks. Actually, I didn't just because I figure the sooner I start bringing "good luck" into the process, the sooner "bad luck" enters as well. Best to not believe in superstitions in my book... Although, I didn't step on the bad-luck square in Saybrook/Branford...

i did get accepted though!

the name of the tabloid is the yale rumpus...and you're right about the toe, i made sure to not touch it...good thing too, my friend who goes there ****ed on it right before some pre-frosh arrived for a tour, and they touched it!

my friend Jon Jon jsut got in... I'm wicked proud of him!!

For fbc001, thank you for the advice...but my situation is sort of funny because everything seemed to line up for a deferral. Three days before decisions came out, I received an e-mail to schedule for an interview. Naturally I was confused because SCEA interviews were due Dec 1. So I asked the interviewer to give me an interview on the condition that I am deferred. Originally, she wasn't going to give me one but I wanted to ask just in case. And looky here! I got deferred and everything just seemed to fall into place! (Is it just me or some sort of divine intervention? Looks at the sky to check for signs of the apocalypse. :))

hmm...yale seems to be more tougher as seen in the rejections than harvard.

Some say that Harvard rejects only the people that wouldn't have gotten in even in God had written them a recommendation. Yale defers the people that they actually want to look at in the regular round.

Whatever.

Subjective:

* ECs listed on app: captain of debate team, captain of science quiz bowl team, math team, volunteer at hospital, officer in nhs, officer in beta club, swim team, spanish nhs
* Job/Work Experience: 14 hrs/wk at a movie theater, 10 hrs/wk cashier at food mart (different time periods)
* Essays (subject and responses): one was about my experience going to Iran and how the poverty influenced my perception of the world, the other was about my freshman english teacher and how writing was important to me. I think the one about Iran was pretty cliche, guess the topic of changes in perception is pretty trite
* Teacher Recs: one of alright, didn't read the other
* Counselor Rec: Didn't read
* Interview (feel and general location): Had an alumni interview at Starbucks, went really well, we talked about politics quite a bit, but other than that is was great

Location/Person:

* State or Country: Louisville, KY
* School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): public (sort of private like, it selects the students that get in), very diverse
* Ethnicity: White, Iranian-American
* Gender: Male
* Strengths/Weaknesses: No particularly impressive awards or accomplishments, but I am pretty dedicated to two of my activities, but I guess that because of so many officer positions they might have gotten the wrong perception
* Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Guess it didn't look like I was too dedicated to a few activities, also the essay probably hurt because it was about 4 or 5 paragraphs of story and only about 1 or 2 on explanation

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: This has definitely taught me a lesson about life, because I was so hardset on Yale. However, I offer sincere congratulations to all of those who get in. I'm sure that all of us that don't get in will do fine and go to another great school and just forget about Yale.

wow navyant u seem realy qualified! condolecnes on not getting into Yale and good luck on your other apps!

[] Counselor Rec: She was really excited about writing it.
[] Interview (feel and general location): Terrible. You try sitting in a dimly-lit room with a chemist. After forty-five minutes of stilted dialogue and hollow pauses, I went home and composed a poem in which I rhymed Yale with fail and ail.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: The admissions officer was probably just like what the flip why is she writing her essay about reading fiction when all her ECs are science-related and she wants to major in Ethics, Politics, and Economics.[/li][/ul]General Comments: I felt sort of raw this morning, but I think I'm okay now.

Rilla: We ought to have a Somerset Hills commiseration party. As long as it's not dimly-lit.

hi guys, i'm from the brown ED board (deferred) but i just wanted to add that my best friend was accepted to yale!! good luck with all of your future college ventures! and merry winter.
